چکیده

This Standard specifies maximum permissible ambient noise levels (MPANLs) allowed in an audiometric test room that produce negligible masking ( 2 dB) of test signals presented at reference equivalent threshold levels specified in ANSI S3.6-1996 American National Standard Specification of Audiometers. The MPANLs are specified from 125 to 8000 Hz in octave and one-third octave band intervals for two audiometric testing conditions (ears covered and ears not covered) and for three test frequency ranges (125 to 8000 Hz, 250 to 8000 Hz, and 500 to 8000 Hz). The Standard is intended for use by all persons testing hearing and for distributors, installers, designers, and manufacturers of audiometric test rooms. This standard is a revision of ANSI S3.1-1991 American National Standard Maximum Permissible Ambient Noise Levels for Audiometric Test Rooms. ANSI S3.1-1999 (Revision of ANSI S3.1-1991) Reaffirmed by ANSI

Effects of background noise on earphone thresholds.

Real-ear attenuation at threshold (REAT) and monaural pure-tone thresholds were determined for normally hearing adults using a supra-aural, Audiocup, and insert earphone. The thresholds were obtained in quiet and in background noises approximating the maximum permissible ambient noise levels (MPANLs) allowed in an audiometric test room specified by ANSI S3.1-1991 and OSHA (1983). The supra-aura...

Background and purpose: Stimulus–evoked otoacoustic emission (OAE) is generated by the outer hair cells (OHCs) and high levels of noise will highly damage these cells. Therefore, even a mild loss in OHCs could alter the generation of OAE. The aim of this study was to assess and compare the pure tone threshold, Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emission (DPOAE) amplitude in industrial workers exper...

The influence of jet engine noise on hearing of technical staff.

BACKGROUND Due to high sound pressure levels (SPLs), noise produced by jet planes may be harmful to hearing of people working in their proximity. The aim of this study was to assess the effects of exposure to jet engine noise on technical staff hearing. MATERIAL AND METHODS The study comprised 60 men, aged 24-50 years, employed in army as technical staff and exposed to jet engine noise for 6-...

Background: Surgeons and anesthesiologists working in orthopedic operating theatres are exposed to significant noise pollution due to the use of powered instruments. This may carry a risk of noise-induced hearing loss. The present study was designed to quantify the noise pollution experienced by anesthesiologists at Imam Khomeini Hospital which is one of the largest Iranian hospitals. Methods:...

بررسی کاهش شنوایی شغلی آتش نشانان تهران

Hearing loss is a controversial occupational disease in fire fighters because exposure to hazardous levels of noise in this job is so variable and unpredictable. In this study, audiometric assessments were performed on 117 fire fighters to evaluate their hearing loss. The results showed that the average fire fighter has a characteristic noise-induced threshold shift, with maximum hearing loss o...
