چکیده

Article history: Received: 18 February 2016 Accepted: 27 September 2016 Published online: 3 November 2016 Abstract Neoplasia affecting a variety of tissues has been documented in many fish species. However, there are few reports of neoplasia in the common clownfish, Amphiprion ocellaris. An adult female clownfish in a public display aquarium was diagnosed with a locally invasive tubular carcinoma. The tumour was characterised by well-differentiated tubules supported by moderate amounts of pale eosinophilic stroma that infiltrated the skin, skeletal muscle and fascial planes of the vertebrae. This is the first report of a tubular carcinoma in this species.

Trophic transfer of essential elements in the clownfish Amphiprion ocellaris in the context of ocean acidification

Little information exists on the effects of ocean acidification (OA) on the digestive and post-digestive processes in marine fish. Here, we investigated OA impacts (Δ pH = 0.5) on the trophic transfer of select trace elements in the clownfish Amphiprion ocellaris using radiotracer techniques. Assimilation efficiencies of three essential elements (Co, Mn and Zn) as well as their other short-term...

Finding Nemo: hybrid assembly with Oxford Nanopore and Illumina reads greatly improves the clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris) genome assembly

Background Some of the most widely recognized coral reef fishes are clownfish or anemonefish, members of the family Pomacentridae (subfamily: Amphiprioninae). They are popular aquarium species due to their bright colours, adaptability to captivity, and fascinating behavior. Their breeding biology (sequential hermaphrodites) and symbiotic mutualism with sea anemones have attracted much scientifi...

Hearing ability in three clownfish species.

Clownfish live in social groups in which there is a size-based dominance hierarchy. In such a context, sonic cues could play a role in social organisation because dominant frequency and pulse length of sounds are strongly correlated with fish size. Data on the hearing ability of these fish are, however, needed to show that they have the sensory ability to detect the frequencies in their sounds....

Effect of stocking density and different diets on growth of Percula Clownfish, Amphiprion percula (Lacepede, 1802)

The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of stocking density (0.5, 1, 2 and 3 fishL(-1)) and commercial marine fish diets (diet A, B, C and D) over four months on specific growth rate, condition factor, percentage without anomalous pigmentation (partial or total lack of white bands -miss-band) and survival of juvenile Amphiprion percula. Results showed that at 0.5 fishL(-1) densities...

First draft genome assembly of an iconic clownfish species (Amphiprion frenatus)

Clownfishes (or anemonefishes) form an iconic group of coral reef fishes, particularly known for their mutualistic interaction with sea anemones. They are characterized by particular life history traits, such as a complex social structure and mating system involving sequential hermaphroditism, coupled with an exceptionally long lifespan. Additionally, clownfishes are considered to be one of the...
