Impact of air pollution on wet deposition of mineral dust aerosols

چکیده
[1] Mineral dust aerosols originating from arid regions are simulated in an atmospheric global chemical transport model. Based on model results and observations of dust concentration, we hypothesize that air pollution increases the scavenging of dust by producing high levels of readily soluble materials on the dust surface, which makes dust aerosols effective cloud condensation nuclei (CCN). This implies that air pollution could have caused an increase of dust deposition to the coastal oceans of East Asia and a decrease by as much as 50% in the eastern North Pacific.

Natural resources play a fundamental role in the economy of country and create the situation to achieve the goals of sustainable society, these valuable resources have to be conserved and used with care. Destroying the forests and rangelands will lead to a dark future full of poverty, starvation and environmental pollution. Forests and rangelands play a considerable role in reducing air pollut...

The research results indicated that wet and dry dust deposition is a function of geographical characteristics. The seasonal wet and dry dust deposition and Fine Particles (PM 2.5) correlation in Iran with elevation, latitude and longitude results that the maximum correlation belongs to height, followed by latitude and longitude; meanwhile height and latitude are strongly and reversely correlate...

This is the second of series on the impact of dust. It focuses on the physical, chemical and physiological effects of dust particles and aerosols. Plants of all types and classes (from algae to forest trees and everything in between) are adversely affected either directly through abrasion by airborne particles or through interference with plant physiology or indirectly through the impact on soi...
متن کاملQuantifying Dry and Wet Deposition Fluxes in Two Regions of Contrasting African Influence: The NE Iberian Peninsula and the Canary Islands
This study considers the role of distance to the African source on the amount of deposition. To this end, dry and wet deposition was measured at a site close to Africa (Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the Canary Islands, SCO) and at a distant site located in NE Spain (La Castanya, Montseny, MSY). Because of the important influence of African influence on the buildup of particles in the atmosphere, we...
متن کاملWet and dry deposition of mineral dust particles in Japan: factors related to temporal variation and spatial distribution
Recent ground networks and satellite remotesensing observations have provided useful data related to spatial and vertical distributions of mineral dust particles in the atmosphere. However, measurements of temporal variations and spatial distributions of mineral dust deposition fluxes are limited in terms of their duration, location, and processes of deposition. To ascertain temporal variations...
