چکیده

The cytoskeleton guides early embryogenesis in Drosophila, which is characterized by a series of rapid synchronous syncytial nuclear divisions that occur in the absence of cytokinesis. Following these divisions, individual cells are produced in a process called cellularization, and these cells are rearranged during the process of gastrulation to produce an embryo composed of three primordial tissue layers.

The Effect of a DNA Damaging Agent on Embryonic Cell Cycles of the Cnidarian Hydractinia echinata

The onset of gastrulation at the Mid-Blastula Transition can accompany profound changes in embryonic cell cycles including the introduction of gap phases and the transition from maternal to zygotic control. Studies in Xenopus and Drosophila embryos have also found that cell cycles respond to DNA damage differently before and after MBT (or its equivalent, MZT, in Drosophila). DNA checkpoints are...

Patterns of engrailed protein in early Drosophila embryos.

By the onset of gastrulation during nuclear cycle 14 of Drosophila embryogenesis, the engrailed gene is expressed in fourteen one-cell-wide stripes. Each stripe defines the anlagen of the posterior compartment of a metameric segment. We report here several observations relating to the role and disposition of the engrailed protein during the embryonic stages that precede cellularization. We demo...

Temporal pattern of cleavage and the onset of gastrulation in amphibian embryos developed from eggs with the reduced cytoplasm.

Fertilized eggs of the Japanese newt, Cynops pyrrhogaster, were divided into two or four equal-sized parts with fine glass rods before the first cleavage. In such cases one of the egg fragments, at least, proceeds to cleavage and gastrulates. The temporal pattern of cell division and the onset of gastrulation in such half or quarter embryos were investigated and compared with normal development...

Micromeres are required for normal vegetal plate specification in sea urchin embryos.

Vegetal plate specification was assessed in S. purpuratus embryos after micromere deletions at the 4th, 5th and 6th cleavages, by assaying expression of the early vegetal plate marker Endo 16, using whole-mount in situ hybridization. After 4th cleavage micromere deletions, the embryos typically displayed weak Endo16 expression in relatively few cells of the lineages that normally constitute the...

The expression of a zebrafish gene homologous to Drosophila snail suggests a conserved function in invertebrate and vertebrate gastrulation.

Snail, a zinc finger protein, is required for the formation of the ventral furrow and the mesoderm during gastrulation of the Drosophila embryo. snail homologues have been cloned from Xenopus and mouse. We have isolated a zebrafish homologue of snail, designated sna-1. Like its Drosophila counterpart, Sna-1 protein is nuclear. Maternal and zygotic sna-1 transcripts are ubiquitously distributed ...
