A principal’s interruptions: time lost or time gained?
نویسنده
چکیده
The article notes that, sometimes explicitly but always implicitly, the “time management” literature condemns interruptions. The article reports on two studies of interruptions experienced by principals in primary and secondary schools in New South Wales, Australia. Data were gathered via structured, non-participant observations of principals at work. Analysis reveals the frequency, length, source and type of interruptions sustained. Contrary to the literature, principals did not view interruptions as hindering their tasks as school leaders. Time spent on interruptions is regarded essentially as time invested rather than time lost. Introduction

According to a new Basex study, office workers spend a quarter of their day consumed by interruptions and distractions—wasting time and money (Wallis, Steptoe, & Cole, 2006). This study determined that this constant splintering and diverting of worker attention consumed up to 2.1 hours of worker productivity per day. The lost hours of productivity included not only interruptions and distraction...

This paper presents an analytical model for computing the stationary distribution of the on-hand inventory in a continuous-review inventory system with compound Poisson demand, Erlang distributed lead time, and lost sales, where the supplier can assume one of the two “available” and “unavailable” states at any point in time according to a continuous-time Markov chain. Exact analytical expressio...

In this paper, a closedloop strategy in the vertical plane is derived in order to determine the thrust direction of a launch vehicle in terms of velocitiestobe gained The two velocities-to-be-gained are utilized, here, for a given altitude and zero vertical speed in a specied nal time The formulation is obtained for constant gravity assumption, but it works when the velocitiesto-be-gained are o...
متن کاملInterruptions and Miscommunications in Surgery: An Observational Study
Suboptimal communication within surgical teams is the leading contributor to adverse patient outcomes across all healthcare settings. In surgery, up to 30% of procedure-specific information may be lost as a result of miscommunication. The aim of this observational study was to describe the relations between interruptions, team familiarity, and the number of miscommunications in surgery. A purpo...
