The usability of traffic management and traffic control systems greatly depends on its ability of reacting upon traffic patterns and permutations. In this research we investigate the possibility of using autonomous intelligent agents to reduce workloads of traffic control operators, while maintaining high levels of usability. This paper describes an intelligent dynamic traffic management and control system that can adaptively respond to real-time traffic conditions. Aim of this research is to get a better insight into the ability of autonomous agents and distributed artificial intelligent systems applicable in the domain of traffic engineering. Finally an example of intelligent agents and a multi-agent system for urban traffic control system is given.
