Climate and vectorborne diseases.
Climate change could significantly affect vectorborne disease in humans. Temperature, precipitation, humidity, and other climatic factors are known to affect the reproduction, development, behavior, and population dynamics of the arthropod vectors of these diseases. Climate also can affect the development of pathogens in vectors, as well as the population dynamics and ranges of the nonhuman ver...
متن کاملVectorborne diseases in West Africa: geographic distribution and geospatial characteristics.
This paper provides an overview of the methods in which geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing (RS) technology have been used to visualise and analyse data related to vectorborne diseases (VBD) in West Africa and to discuss the potential for these approaches to be routinely included in future studies of VBDs. GIS/RS studies of diseases that are associated with a specific geogra...
متن کاملSpectrum of Viral Pathogens in Blood of Malaria-Free Ill Travelers Returning to Canada.
Malaria is the most common specific cause of fever in returning travelers, but many other vectorborne infections and viral infections are emerging and increasingly encountered by travelers. We documented common and emerging viral pathogens in malaria-negative specimens from ill travelers returning to Canada. Anonymized, malaria-negative specimens were examined for various viral pathogens by rea...
متن کاملPrevalence and risk assessment for sexually transmitted infections in pregnant women and female sex workers in Mali: is syndromic approach suitable for screening?
Introduction The analysis of local factors and the determination of most appropriate risk assessment are essential for the development of clinical algorithms for the management of STIs. In Mali little is known about the prevalence and risk assessment for reproductive tract infections in women. This study aimed to document the prevalence and risk factors for cervical and vaginal infections among...
متن کاملVectorborne Transmission of Leishmania infantum from Hounds, United States
Leishmaniasis is a zoonotic disease caused by predominantly vectorborne Leishmania spp. In the United States, canine visceral leishmaniasis is common among hounds, and L. infantum vertical transmission among hounds has been confirmed. We found that L. infantum from hounds remains infective in sandflies, underscoring the risk for human exposure by vectorborne transmission.
