Phonological Memory Deficits in Language Disordered Children: Is There a Causal Connection?
نویسندگان
چکیده
The phonological memory skills of a group of children with disordered language development were compared with those of two control groups, one group matched on verbal abilities and the other matched on nonverbal intelligence. The language-disordered children were poorer at repeating single nonwords and recalling word lists than even the younger children of matched verbal abilities. The language-disordered children were, however, sensitive to both the phonological similarity and word length of the memory lists, except for the longest lists. The results of two further experiments indicate that the poor memory performance of the language-disordered children is unlikely to be due to either impaired perceptual processing or to slow articulation rates. Our proposal is that a deficit of phonological storage in working memory may underpin the poor memory performance of the language-disordered children, and could play a central role in their disordered language development. 01990

Study of Phonological Awareness in Children with Phonological Disorders
Objective: The relationship between phonological awareness and phonological disorders has been considered in recent decades. Phonological awareness deficits in children with phonological disorders could be due to a deficit in phonological abilities. The present study attempts to study the phonological awareness deficits in children with phonological disorders. Materials & Methods: This was ...
متن کاملAuditory processing skills and phonological representation in dyslexic children.
It is now well-established that there is a causal connection between children's phonological skills and their acquisition of reading and spelling. Here we study low-level auditory processes that may underpin the development of phonological representations in children. Dyslexic and control children were given a battery of phonological tasks, reading and spelling tasks and auditory processing tas...

متن کاملPhonological memory and word learning deficits in children with specific language impairment: A role for perceptual context?
BACKGROUND Sensitivity to perceptual context (anchoring) has been suggested to contribute to the development of both oral- and written-language skills, but studies of this idea in children have been rare. AIMS To determine whether deficient anchoring contributes to the phonological memory and word learning deficits of children with specific language impairment (SLI). METHODS AND PROCEDURES ...
متن کاملThe Effect of Phonological Awareness on the Auditory Memory in Students With Spelling Problems
Objectives: In this research study, the effect of training phonological awareness skills on the improvement of auditory memory in students with spelling problems in third grade at primary schools in Sari City, Iran, was investigated. Methods: The research method used in the study was quasi-experimental with pre-tests, post-tests, and a control group. The statistical population consisted ...
