چکیده

The Grid Information Service (GIS) is one of the Grid Common Services which make up the basic functions belonging to Grids. This service offers a resource discovery mechanism, of which an implementation is provided by the Monitoring and Discovery Service (MDS-2), which is part of the Globus Toolkitw. Grid applications are typically the users of this resource discovery mechanism; knowledge is thus obtained about the existence of appropriate resources on which to execute jobs. Since these Grid applications are likely to be influenced by dynamic middleware, it is crucial that they experience a reliable performance for the proper utilisation of resources and for accountability purposes. Consequently, the approach taken in the paper is to investigate and evaluate a level of performance obtainable from the MDS. A better understanding of the performance of the GRIS (Grid Resource Information Service) and subsequently the GIIS (Grid Index Information Service) leads to a more standard way of formalising the performance of a Grid Information Service. This is achieved by defining a number of performance metrics which are analysed against a set of different information gathering methods and GRIS back-end implementations.

Weighted-HR: An Improved Hierarchical Grid Resource Discovery

Grid computing environments include heterogeneous resources shared by a large number of computers to handle the data and process intensive applications. In these environments, the required resources must be accessible for Grid applications on demand, which makes the resource discovery as a critical service. In recent years, various techniques are proposed to index and discover the Grid resource...

Abstract—In grid computing, the grid information service (GIS) plays an important role in grid resource discovery, registry, and indexing. The resource monitoring and discovery service (MDS) in GIS provides a set of messages to get the status information of resource providers and keeps monitoring...

Predicting the Performance of Globus Monitoring and Discovery Service (MDS-2) Queries

Resource discovery and monitoring in a distributed Grid environment gives rise to several issues, one of which is the provision of reliable performance and hence, the quality-ofservice delivered to Grid users. This performance requirement brings about the necessity to know how the Monitoring and Discovery Service (MDS) would respond to various queries. This paper focuses on the performance of t...

Grid Resource Monitoring and Selection for Rapid Turnaround Applications

In this paper, we present a resource monitoring and selection method for rapid turnaround grid applications (for example, within 10 seconds). The novelty of our method is the distributed evaluation of resources for rapidly selecting the appropriate idle resources. We integrate our method with a widely used resource management system, namely the Monitoring and Discovery System 2 (MDS2), and comp...
