Matching and Network E¤ects

چکیده
This paper examines the existence and magnitude of network e¤ects in the matching of workteams. We study the formation of co-author relations among economists over a thirty year period. Our principal nding is that a collaboration emerges faster among two authors if they are closer in the social network of economists. This proximity e¤ect on collaboration is strong and robust but only a¤ects initial collaboration. It has no positive inuence on subsequent co-authorship. We also provide some evidence that matching depends on experience, junior authors being more likely to collaborate with senior authors. Employment E¤ects of Service O¤shoring: Evidence from Matched Firms
This paper studies the e¤ects of service o¤shoring on the level and skill composition of domestic employment, using a rich data set of Italian rms and propensity score matching techniques. The results show that service o¤shoring has no e¤ect on the level of employment but changes its composition in favor of high skilled workers.
متن کاملSocial Ties and User-Generated Content: Evidence from an Online Social Network
We use variation in wind speeds at sur ng locations in Switzerland as plausibly exogenous shifters of userspropensity to post content about their sur ng activity onto an online social network. We exploit this variation to test whether usersonline content generation activity a¤ects their social ties, and whether ties in turn a¤ects content generation. Under weak monotonicity assumptions, we al...
متن کاملHow do Switching Costs A¤ect Market Concentration and Prices in Network Industries?
I investigate the e¤ects of switching costs on the market outcome in network industries using a dynamic duopoly model of price competition in the presence of an outside option. I nd that the role of switching costs depends on network e¤ects and the outside option. Without a viable outside option, high switching costs can neutralize the tendency towards high market concentration associated with...
متن کاملA comparison between knowledge-driven fuzzy and data-driven artificial neural network approaches for prospecting porphyry Cu mineralization; a case study of Shahr-e-Babak area, Kerman Province, SE Iran
The study area, located in the southern section of the Central Iranian volcano–sedimentary complex, contains a large number of mineral deposits and occurrences which is currently facing a shortage of resources. Therefore, the prospecting potential areas in the deeper and peripheral spaces has become a high priority in this region. Different direct and indirect methods try to predict promising a...
متن کاملSpecication and Estimation of Social Interaction Models with Network Structures
This paper considers the speci cation and estimation of social interaction models with network structures and the presence of endogenous, contextual and correlated e¤ects. With macro group settings, group-speci c xed e¤ects are also incorporated in the model. The network structure provides information on the identi cation of the various interaction e¤ects. We propose a quasi-maximum likelihood...
