چکیده

Introduction Conventional MR imaging does not provide reliable information on tumor physiology such as microvascularity, angiogenesis or tumor cellularity, all of which are important in determing tumor grade. Advanced MR imaging techniques such as diffusion (DWI), perfusion (PWI) can provide important physiological information in brain tumors. Diffusion tensor metrics such as fractional anisotropy (FA) and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) in the tumor have been reported to be abnormal , and regional tumor blood volume (rTBV) has been reported to be higher in high grade gliomas compared to low grade gliomas . The purpose of this study was to determine whether there was any correlations between FA, ADC and rTBV values within enhanced lesion on T1 contrast enhanced imaging (ceT1WI).

Diffusion Tensor Imaging for Glioma Grading: Analysis of Fiber Density Index

Introduction: The most common primary tumors of brain are gliomas and tumor grading is essential for designing proper treatment strategies. The gold standard choice to determine grade of glial tumor is biopsy which is an invasive method. The purpose of this study was to investigatethe role of fiber density index (FDi) by means of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) (as a noninvasive method) in glial...

Evaluation of Diffusion Anisotropy and Diffusion Shape in Grading of Glial Tumors

Background: The most common primary tumors of brain are gliomas. Grading of tumor is vital for designing proper treatment plans. The gold standard choice to determine the grade of glial tumor is biopsy which is an invasive method. Objective: In this study, we try to investigate the role of fractional anisotropy (diffusion anisotropy) and linear anisotropy ...

Grading of Glioma Tumors by Analysis of Minimum Apparent Diffusion Coefficient and Maximum Relative Cerebral Blood Volume

Background: Gliomas are the most common primary neoplasms of the central nervous system. Relative cerebral blood volume (rCBV) could estimate high-grade Gliomas computed with dynamic susceptibility contrast MR imaging which it is artificially lowered by contrast extravasation through a disrupted blood-brain barrier. Objectives: Our intent was to clarify the usefulness of diffusion-weighted m...

The role of relative cerebral blood volume obtained from Perfusion Weighted Imaging-MRI in glioma tumor grading before surgery

Introduction: Glioma is the most common type of brain malignancy among adults. Treatment for this type of tumor involves surgery, radiotherapy, and in higher grades, including chemotherapy. The precise grading of the tumor is critical for treatment planning and prognosis determining. Considering the possibility of problems such as errors in tissue sampling during surgery, as we...

Differentiation between low and high grade in non-enhancing cerebral gliomas and neuronal- glial tumors

Background and Purpose: It is important to pre-operativly grade the non-enhancing supratentorial gliomas and neuronal-glial tumors(NEGNGT) as earlier studies have indicated that up to 45% of the non-enhancing supratentorial gliomas are malignant. This is, however, difficultly on conventional MR imaging which led us to evaluate some other imaging paremeters. The aim of this study was to compare ...
