Integrated Safety Speed Model for Curved Roads
نویسندگان
چکیده
Statistical data of P.R. China indicate that traffic accidents on curved roads take a large proportion of the total road accidents. To improve safety and driving comfort on curved roads, a mathematic speed model is developed to determine an optimised safety speed on curved roads. The model takes quantitative static road environment parameters (such as curvature, road gradient, superelevation, road surface, road width, road attributes), and dynamic environmental conditions (such as luminosity, vision and weather), and driver characteristics into account. In order to adapt to the individual driving behaviour, especially the speed selection at the curvature by taking into account the individual characteristics, the developed model is further modified by combining a BP (back-propagation) neural network model. The modified safety speed model has been verified with the tests based on a series of driver behaviour experimental data.

Driver Safe Speed Model Based on BP Neural Network for Rural Curved Roads
In order to improve the safety and comfort of the vehicles on rural curved roads, the paper proposed a safe curve speed model based on the BP Neural Network. A series of drivers’ manual operation state data during cornering were gathered and observed according to the driver experiments under real traffic conditions. Three factors, referring to the speed calculated based on road trajectory param...

More than 60% of accidents in Iran occur within 30 kilometers of cities entrance roads. Therefore the number of accidents per kilometer in these regions, in contrast to the other parts of roads is very considerable. The city of Tehran, as the capital of Iran, is the cross point of major arterials of passenger and freight transportation. Thus the evaluation of road safety, entering and exiting t...

ITE JOURNAL / SEPTEMBER 1998 DESPITE PROGRESS IN REDUCing motor vehicle crash deaths and injuries in the United States, sharp horizontal curves situated on narrow twolane highways—a common roadway design feature—pose a significant safety threat. According to data published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly 80 percent of all fatal crashes in the United States occur on...
متن کاملEstimation Model of Two-Lane Rural Roads Safety Index According to Characteristics of the Road and Drivers’ Behavior
Vehicle crashes are amongst the major causes of mortality and results in losses of lives and properties. A large number of the vehicle crashes occur on rural roads. Accidents become more noteworthy in two-lane roads due to going and coming traffic. Therefore, prediction of crashes and their causes are considerably important to reduce the number and severity of the accidents. The safety index is...
متن کاملUse of speed profile as surrogate measure: Effect of traffic calming devices on crosstown road safety performance.
Urban road safety management is usually characterized by the lack of sufficient, good quality crash data and low budgets to obtain it even though many traffic accidents occur there. For example, 54 percent of road crashes in Spain take place in urban areas, and 10 percent of urban fatal crashes occur on crosstown roads, which are rural roads that traverse small communities. Traffic calming meas...
