چکیده
(1) Use of vague, exaggerated or untestable claims—including: (a) assertion of imprecise claims and (b) use of obscurantist language. (2) Over-reliance on confirmation rather than refutation—including: (a) assertion of claims that cannot be falsified in the event that they are incorrect; (b) over-reliance on testimonials and anecdotes; (c) selective use of experimental evidence. (3) Lack of openness to testing by other experts— including: failure to provide adequate information for other researchers to reproduce the claimed results. (4) Lack of progress—including: failure to progress towards additional evidence of its claims. (5) Personalisation of issues—including: (a) tight social groups and granfalloons; (b) attacking the motives or character of anyone who questions the claims.

Computer Models of Musical Creativity , MIT
Music and computers are natural partners. For centuries, music theory has been closely aligned with (and an important source of inspiration for) science and mathematics. Music compositions, however, are too large and complex to model mathematically, at least in practice. For the most part, science and mathematics diverged from music composition and developed independently—but then computers cam...
متن کاملControlling musical emotionality: an affective computational architecture for influencing musical emotions
Emotions are a key part of creative endeavours, and a core problem for computational models of creativity. In this paper we discuss an affective computing architecture for the dynamic modification of music with a view to predictably affecting induced musical emotions. Extending previous work on the modification of perceived emotions in music, our system architecture aims to provide reliable con...
متن کاملInvestigating Listener Bias Against Musical Metacreativity
We present an empirical study investigating the hypothesis that listeners hold a bias against computer-composed music. Presented in part as a replication study, the proposed methodology seeks to improve upon weaknesses found in previous studies of the subject. Across two study periods, with approximately 60 subjects each, we failed to find evidence of a significant bias against computer-compose...
متن کاملOn the evolution of music in a society of self-taught digital creatures
Perhaps one the greatest achievements of artificial intelligence (AI) to date lies in the construction of machines that can compose music of incredibly high quality; e.g. (Cope 1991). These AI systems (Miranda 2000) are only any good, however, at mimicking wellknown musical styles. They are either hardwired to compose in a certain style or able to learn how to imitate a style by looking at patt...
متن کاملLinear basis models for prediction and analysis of musical expression
The quest for understanding how pianists interpret notated music to turn it into a lively musical experience, has led to numerous models of musical expression. Several models exist that explain expressive variations over the course of a performance, for example in terms of phrase structure, or musical accent. Often however expressive markings are written explicitly in the score to guide perform...
