A minimal logic for interactive epistemology
نویسنده
چکیده
I will propose a minimal logic for interactive epistemology based on a qualitative representation of epistemic individual and group attitudes including knowledge, belief, strong belief, common knowledge and common belief. I will show that the logic is sufficiently expressive to provide an epistemic foundation for various game-theoretic notions and solution concepts such as strong and weak dominance, 1-round of deletion of weakly dominated strategies, followed by iterated deletion of strongly dominated strategies (DWDS1IDSDS) and 2-rounds of deletion of weakly dominated strategies, followed by iterated deletion of strongly dominated strategies (DWDS2-IDSDS). Two semantics for the logic will be given, a Kripkean possible-world semantics and a semantics based on the concept of type space. Equivalence results for two semantics as well as axiomatization and complexity results for the logic will be given.

How DoesStrawson Unify Epistemology, Ontology and Logic
Strawson’s conception of analysis as a ‘connective linguistic analysis’ makes it possible for him to achieve an indefinitely large range of ideas or concepts among them are certain numbers of fundamental, general and pervasive concepts or concept-types which not only are pre-theoretical or ahistorical, but also together constitute a structural framework only within whichlogic, ontology and epis...
متن کاملOn the Role of Interactive Epistemology in Multiagent Planning
This paper focuses on the foundational role of interactive epistemology in the problem of generating plans for rational agents in multiagent settings. Interactive epistemology deals with the logic of knowledge and belief when there is more than one agent. In multiagent settings, we are interested in not only the agent’s knowledge of the state of the world, but also its belief over the other age...
متن کاملA Minimal-Cost Inherent-Feedback Approach for Low-Power MRF-Based Logic Gates
The Markov random field (MRF) theory has been accepted as a highly effective framework for designing noise-tolerant nanometer digital VLSI circuits. In MRF-based design, proper feedback lines are used to control noise and keep the circuits in their valid states. However, this methodology has encountered two major problems that have limited the application of highly noise immune MRF-based circui...
متن کاملVINCENT F . HENDRICKS Modal Operator Theory
Formal treatments of epistemology and epistemological issues have come a great way in recent years. Valuable results have been produced by Bayesians, in formal learning theory (also known as computational epistemology in [Kelly 96] and epistemic logic. While the first to formal approaches concentrate on learning and knowledge acquisition issues, the latter concentrate on axiomatics and validity...
متن کاملEpistemic Logic and Epistemology: the State of Their Affairs
Epistemology and epistemic logic At first sight, the modern agenda of epistemology has little to do with logic. Topics include different definitions of knowledge, its basic formal properties, debates between externalist and internalist positions, and above all: perennial encounters with sceptics lurking behind every street corner, especially in the US. The entry 'Epistemology' in the Routledge ...
