چکیده

Recent progress suggests that integrative cardiac reserve is important in coronary artery disease, chronic heart failure, cardiomyopathy, and other cardiovascular diseases. Integrative cardiac reserve includes coronary flow reserve, myocardial reserve, energy reserve, and heart rate reserve. In the case of stress reaction, coronary flow reserve can provide excessive blood and energy supply and increase the heart rate. Thus, the dysfunctional myocardium can recover its contractile characteristics. In this study, we review the current knowledge on integrative cardiac reserve in order to provide an additional cure and strategy for the treatment of heart diseases. © 2015 S. Karger AG, Basel

Left ventricular output and aortic blood flow in response to changes in preload and afterload in the preterm piglet heart.

Low systemic blood flow occurs in up to 30% of infants born at less than 30 wk gestation. It is associated with increased morbidity and mortality, and current treatments are ineffective in 40% of cases. The aim of this study was to assess the ability of the preterm heart to respond to the acute shifts in preload and afterload that occur at the time of birth. Myocardial and coronary vascular fun...

S100A1: a novel inotropic regulator of cardiac performance. Transition from molecular physiology to pathophysiological relevance.

Here we review the considerable body of evidence that has accumulated to support the notion of S100A1, a cardiac-specific Ca(2+)-sensor protein of the EF-hand type, as a physiological regulator of excitation-contraction coupling and inotropic reserve mechanisms in the mammalian heart. In particular, molecular mechanisms will be discussed conveying the Ca(2+)-dependent inotropic actions of S100A...

Age exacerbates chronic catecholamine-induced impairments in contractile reserve in the rat.

Contractile reserve decreases with advancing age and chronic isoproterenol (ISO) administration is a well-characterized model of cardiac hypertrophy known to impair cardiovascular function. This study evaluated whether nonsenescent, mature adult rats are more susceptible to detrimental effects of chronic ISO administration than younger adult rats. Rats received daily injections of ISO (0.1 mg/k...

Early afterdepolarizations in cardiac myocytes: beyond reduced repolarization reserve.

Early afterdepolarizations (EADs) are secondary voltage depolarizations during the repolarizing phase of the action potential, which can cause lethal cardiac arrhythmias. The occurrence of EADs requires a reduction in outward current and/or an increase in inward current, a condition called reduced repolarization reserve. However, this generalized condition is not sufficient for EAD genesis and ...

Cardiac output, at rest and during exercise, before and during myocardial ischemia, reperfusion, and infarction in conscious mice.

Multiple systems and regulatory strategies interact to control cardiac homeostasis. In fact, regulated systems, feedback controls, and redundant control mechanisms dominate in whole animals. Accordingly, molecular and cellular tools and techniques must be utilized in complex models with multiple systems and regulatory strategies to fully appreciate the physiological context. Currently, these te...
