Documentation of Architectural Scenes Using a Hierarchical Method
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents a hierarchical two-level method for reconstruction and detailed documentation of architectural scenes from photographs taken using digital cameras. The first level in the method involves creating a coarse model of the scene. Multiple images of an architectural scene are automatically matched for corresponding points and autocalibration is performed. Subsequently, a projective geometry based approach is adopted and bundle adjustment techniques are applied to create a reconstruction of the scene. The coarse model is thus generated with minimal user input, the results of which are presented in this paper. The second level takes the coarse model as the input and creates a detailed documentation of the architectural scene. Documentation consists of a 3D model and, associated with it, ancillary information about the architectural scene. The 3D model generated may be of a much higher geometric quality than the coarse model. Ancillary information is in the form of an information system containing attributes such as spatial reference, textual information about the structure, historical notes, conservation status and any other information of importance. The second level has two advantages – it avoids field reconnaissance and provides a means for automatic planning of camera positions. The advantages are offered by the concepts of virtual reconnaissance and Automatic Image Acquisition Planning (AIAP) respectively. As an extension, an integrated Architectural Heritage Information System (AHIS) is proposed. AHIS facilitates efficient management of both spatial and non-spatial ancillary information. The advantages of having a spatial database for architectural heritage will help conservation architects, government agencies and other interested parties to manage resources needed for preservation of built heritage effectively. * Corresponding author

Hierarchical Instantiation for Radiosity
We present the concept of hierarchical instantiation for radiosity. This new method enables an efficient, yet accurate determination of the illumination in very large scenes, where similar objects are replaced by instances of the same element. Instances are equipped with suitable radiative properties and are used to replace large amounts of geometry at multiple levels of the scene hierarchy. In...

Documentation analysis and organisation are vital to the researcher when trying to understand the evolution of patrimonial edifices and sites. Documentary sources provide partial evidences from which the researcher will infer possible scenarios on how an edifice may have been changed throughout the centuries. They are the only scientific basis from which virtual renderings can be proposed and j...
متن کاملTraffic Scene Analysis using Hierarchical Sparse Topical Coding
Analyzing motion patterns in traffic videos can be exploited directly to generate high-level descriptions of the video contents. Such descriptions may further be employed in different traffic applications such as traffic phase detection and abnormal event detection. One of the most recent and successful unsupervised methods for complex traffic scene analysis is based on topic models. In this pa...
متن کاملReconstructing Polyhedral Models of Architectural Scenes from Photographs
This paper presents a new image-based modeling method that facilitates the recovery of accurate polyhedral models of architectural scenes. The method is particularly e ective because it exploits many of the constraints that are characteristic of architectural scenes. This work is placed in the context of the Fa cade project, whose goal is to use images to produce photo-realistic novel views of ...
متن کاملGraphic Variables for Dynamic 2d/3d Documentation Visualisation in the Context of Historical Architecture
(EN) In the field of the architectural heritage, people in charge of studying the evolution of objects face a growing mass of documentation to organise and analyse, when not to discover. Most of this documentation is not formalised, and remains often unpublished. This opens a methodological challenge : what concepts can integrate various pieces of information about architectural objects? In par...
