Detection of Peri-Papillary Atrophy and RNFL Defect from Retinal Images

چکیده
The task of detecting peri-papillary indicators associated with the glaucoma is challenging due to the high degree of intra-and inter-image variations commonly seen in colour retinal images. The existing approaches based on direct modeling of the region of interest fail to handle such image variations which compromises detection accuracy. In this paper, a novel detection strategy is proposed which exploits the saliency property associated with these indicators. The region of interest is modeled as a region substantially different from the adjacent image regions. This dissimilarity information is derived at the feature level, between the target and its adjacent regions. Based on the proposed strategy, two novel methods are presented for the detection of peri-papillary atrophy and RNFL defect from colour retinal images. Two different datasets have been used to evaluate the performance of developed solutions. The obtained results are encouraging and establish the strength of the proposed strategy in handling high degree of image variations. The preliminary results and comparative evaluation with direct modeling strategy show viability of proposed strategy to be used in the glaucoma assess-

Early Detection of Glaucoma through Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer Analysis Using Fractal Dimension and Texture Feature
The retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) is a vital part of human visual system, which can be directly observed by the fundus camera. This paper describes a method for glaucomatous retina detection based on Texture and Fractal description, followed by classification using support vector machine classifier. The color fundus images are used, in which the region of retinal nerve fibers are analyzed. I...

The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics of microcystic macular edema (MME) determined from the en face images obtained by an adaptive optics (AO) fundus camera in patients with autosomal dominant optic atrophy (ADOA) and to try to determine the mechanisms underlying the degeneration of the inner retinal cells and RNFL by using the advantage of AO. Six patients from 4 fa...
متن کاملUtility of Heidelberg retinal tomography as a screening tool for analyzing retinal nerve fiber layer defects
CONTEXT Although Heidelberg retinal tomography (HRT)-generated topographic images have been studied extensively for the detection of retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) defects, little is known about the role of HRT-generated surface reflectivity images in the detection of RNFL defects in either patients with glaucoma or glaucoma suspects. AIMS To evaluate the effectiveness of HRT version II (HR...
متن کاملLaser scanning tomography of localised nerve fibre layer defects.
AIMS Retinal nerve fibre layer photography is a well established method to qualitatively document early structural changes which might be induced by primary open angle glaucoma. The aim was to analyse localised retinal nerve fibre layer (RNFL) defects in a new quantitative way with respect to surface topography, defect width, and surface reflectivity by means of the technique of confocal scanni...
متن کاملCorrelation between Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer Thickness by Optical Coherence Tomography and Perimetric Parameters in Optic Atrophy
PURPOSE To investigate the correlation between retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness determined by optical coherence tomography (OCT) and visual field (VF) parameters in patients with optic atrophy. METHODS This study was performed on 35 eyes of 28 patients with optic atrophy. RNFL thickness was measured by OCT (Carl Zeiss, Jena, Germany) and automated perimetry was performed using the H...
