Myosin structure: Does the tail wag the dog?
نویسنده
چکیده
Previous crystal structures of the myosin head have shown two different conformations, postulated to be the beginning and the end of the actomyosin power stroke. A new crystal structure reveals a dramatically different conformation; but how does this conformation fit into the force-generating cycle of actomyosin interactions?

When the tail can't wag the dog: the implications of CNS-intrinsic initiation of neuroinflammation
The CNS (central nervous system) is unquestionably the central organ that regulates directly or indirectly all physiological systems in the mammalian body. Yet, when considering the defence of the CNS from pathogens, the CNS has often been considered passive and subservient to the pro-inflammatory responses of the immune system. In this view, neuroinflammatory disorders are examples of when the...
متن کاملWEB OBJECTS TIME: When Microsoft Started Speaking Like a Good Open-Standards Citizen, The Netscape Extensions Tail Tried to Wag The Dog and Object-Oriented Software Turned Static Web Pages Into Dynamically-Linked Access Boulevards to Significant Online Collection Databases
"Are We There Yet," a panel considering the state of public access to online images databases, was proposed nearly a year ago. We all knew the answer to the proposed question at the time--yes and no. The bigger question was and is, does the software OS industry, the application vendors or the end user control the throttle of progress, and again, the answer regarding each of the players is yes a...
متن کاملDoes the Dog Wag the Tail or the Tail the Dog? Cointegration of Indian Agriculture with Nonagriculture
An oft-repeated refrain in the development literature has been the “neglect” of the agricultural sector vis-à-vis the industrial sector in the development process of the less developed economies. Because infrastructure is crucially linked to both agricultural and industrial development, poor infrastructure development may make it appear as if slow agricultural growth has caused slow industrial ...
متن کاملThe tail that wags the dog: the globular tail domain defines the function of myosin V/XI.
Actin-based organelle movements are driven by the related multifunctional myosin motors of class V in animals and fungi and class XI in plants. The versatility of these motors depends critically on their C-terminal globular tail domain that allows them to bind to a broad variety of cargo molecules. Regulation of this motor-cargo attachment is frequently employed to modulate organelle movement. ...
متن کاملPredator-elicited visual signal: why the turquoise-browed motmot wag-displays its racketed tail
Both sexes of the turquoise-browed motmot (Eumomota superciliosa) perform a wag-display in the presence of predators, whereby their long racketed tail is repeatedly rocked side-to-side in a pendulous fashion. I tested 3 hypotheses for the function of the predator-elicited wag-display: 1) pursuit-deterrent signal, 2) warning alarm signal, and 3) self-preservation alarm signal. These hypotheses w...
