Inverse scattering for elastic plane cracks

چکیده
It is known that hard planar acoustic screens generate null far-eld amplitude on the directions deened by the plane that encloses them. We proved in an earlier paper that this property actually characterizes plane screens among scatterers of any shape, and we generalized it to other boundary conditions. Furthermore it was proved that a single incident wave is suucient to distinguish screens that lie in the same plane. Generalizations of these results are carried out in this paper to the elastic case.

Multiple cracks in an elastic half-plane subjected to thermo-mechanical loading
An analytical solution is presented for the thermoelastic problem of a half-plane with several cracks under thermo mechanical loading using distributed dislocation technique. The uncoupled quasi-static linear thermoelasticity theory is adopted in which the change in temperature, if any, due to deformations is neglected. The stress field in a half-plane containing thermoelastic dislocation is ob...
متن کاملUniqueness in inverse elastic scattering from unbounded rigid surfaces of rectangular type
Consider the two-dimensional inverse elastic scattering problem of recovering a piecewise linear rigid rough or periodic surface of rectangular type for which the neighboring line segments are always perpendicular. We prove the global uniqueness with at most two incident elastic plane waves by using near-field data. If the Lamé constants satisfy a certain condition, then the data of a single pl...
متن کاملCrack Identification and Characterization in the Rayleigh Limit
We discuss apparent characteristic features of Rayleigh scattering of elastic waves from cracks. Interpreting these features, we propose a procedure that in some experimental situations may be useful to distinguish generally-shaped cracks from volume defects. For elliptically-shaped cracks, we propose additional procedures that in principle allow the unique specification of crack size, shape an...
متن کاملApplication of MOOT to Scattering of Elastic Waves from Compound Inclusions
We show how MOOT (method of optimal truncation, a convergent T-matrix scheme) can be used to calculate elastic wave scattering from compound inclusions; i.e. inclusions which themselves contain flawsinclusions, voids, or cracks. The general equations are derived, and they are solved for a particular axially-symmetric case a cracked spherical jnclusion immersed in fluid. The crack edge is a circ...
متن کاملElastic wave propagation and scattering in solids with uniaxially aligned cracks.
In this article, elastic wave propagation and scattering in a solid medium permeated by uniaxially aligned penny-shaped microcracks are studied. The crack alignment refers to the case in which the unit normals of all cracks are randomly oriented within a plane of isotropy. The analysis is restricted to the limit of the noninteraction approximation among individual cracks. Explicit expressions f...
