Cosmic fluctuations and dark matter from scalar field oscillations.

چکیده

It is argued that scale-invariant cosmic uctuations and cosmic dark matter might originate from two di erent modes of a single scalar eld. The dynamical relaxation of a multicomponent classical scalar eld in an expanding universe excites two generic types of global modes: massless Goldstone oscillations, which lead to scale-invariant isentropic uctuations, and massive Higgs modes, which lead to cold dark matter with isocurvature uctuations in density. Estimates are given of these e ects in a simple generic model where the large scale uctuations and dark matter density match those observed; it is shown that the former requires a heavy scale ( 0 10 16GeV) for the potential minimum, and the latter requires an extremely small self coupling ( 10 83). An additional prediction of the model is then the formation of isocurvature uctuations, leading to the early collapse of dense 100M dark matter \miniclusters", formation of dense halos on the scale of compact dwarf galaxies, and possibly observable gravitational microlensing of quasars.

Dark energy from primordial inflationary quantum fluctuations.

We show that current cosmic acceleration can be explained by an almost massless scalar field experiencing quantum fluctuations during primordial inflation. Provided its mass does not exceed the Hubble parameter today, this field has been frozen during the cosmological ages to start dominating the Universe only recently. By using supernovae data, completed with baryonic acoustic oscillations fro...

A supersymmetric hybrid potential model with low energy supersymmetry breaking scale (MS ∼ 1 − 10Tev) is presented for both dark matter and dark energy. Cold dark matter is associated with a light modulus field (∼ 10−100Mev) undergoing coherent oscillations around a saddle point false vacuum with the presently observed energy density (ρ0 ∼ 10 eV ). The latter is generated by its coupling to a l...

On the Interpretation Of the Local Dark Matter

The cause of the extended rotation curves of galaxies is investigated. It is shown that conventional sources and most exotic sources for the needed gravitational fields are implausible. We suggest spatial fluctuations in a scalar field, similar to the inflation field, are responsible for the gravitational fields. These fluctuations play the role of ‘dark’ halos around galaxies. They take ∼ 10 y...

Particle Physics and Cosmology

In the first Lecture, the Big Bang and the Standard Model of particle physics are introduced, as well as the structure of the latter and open issues beyond it. Neutrino physics is discussed in the second Lecture, with emphasis on models for neutrino masses and oscillations. The third Lecture is devoted to supersymmetry, including the prospects for discovering it at accelerators or as cold dark ...

A tensor - vector - scalar framework for modified dynamics and cosmic dark matter

I describe a tensor-vector-scalar theory that reconciles the galaxy scale success of modified Newtonian dynamics (MOND) with the cosmological scale evidence for CDM. The theory provides a cosmological basis for MOND in the sense that the predicted phe-nomenology only arises in a cosmological background. The theory contains an evolving effective potential, and scalar field oscillations in this p...
