Dispersion measurement of tapered air-silica microstructure fiber by white-light interferometry.

چکیده
Dispersion properties of novel, tapered, air-silica microstructure fibers are measured between 1.3 and 1.65 microm by white-light interferometry. Dispersion values (beta2) of -181 and -152 ps2/km were obtained for 2.2- and 3-microm core sizes, respectively, at lambda = 1.55 microm.

Dispersion measurements with white-light interferometry
White-light interferograms provide a simple, accurate, and physically intuitive picture of what happens to broadband optical pulses on transmission through, or reflection from, common optical materials. Quantitative measurement of group delay are made with an accuracy of 60.1 fs and with high spectral resolution. This measurement accuracy is applied to the determination of d2nydl2 and d3nydl3 o...
متن کاملWhite-light interferometric fiber-optic strain sensor from three-peak-wavelength broadband LED source.
A white-light fiber-optic interferometer working in the spatial domain, using a special three-peak-wavelength LED as a light source and one of the two arms of the Michelson interferometer as a strain sensor, is presented. Based on the Gaussian spectrum distribution function, a simple spectrum-decomposing method is used to describe the special three-peak-wavelength LED source. Experimental and t...
متن کاملElectrically driven motion of micro-fluids in air-silica microstructure fiber: application to tunable filter/attenuator
We present an approach for manipulating light in an optical fiber where efficient modal field interaction is achieved between modes propagating in an air-silica microstructure optical fiber and micro-fluids incorporated in the air-holes of the fiber. We demonstrate this apporach in terms of applications to tunable devices.
متن کاملUltrashort pulse propagation in air-silica microstructure fiber.
The unique dispersive and nonlinear properties of air-silica microstructure fibers lead to supercontinuum generation at modest pulse energies. We report the results of a comprehensive experimental and numerical study of the initial stages of supercontinuum generation. The influence of initial peak power on the development of a Raman soliton is quantified. The role of dispersion on the spectral ...
متن کاملMeasurement of group velocity dispersion for finite size three-dimensional photonic crystals in the near-infrared spectral region
We measure group delay and group velocity dispersion of silica colloidal photonic crystals in the near-infrared with white light interferometry. While group delay and group velocity dispersion increase with sample thickness, scattering on sample imperfections is found to counteract this development, resulting in group delays lower than theoretically expected. For thin photonic crystals, group v...
