Products of Wheat Straw Biodegradation by Cyathus stercoreus

چکیده

The residual biodegradation products of wheat straw lignin attacked by Cyathus stercoreus for thirty days were identified. Low-molecualr-weight nonvolatile materials constituted less than 5% of the total 14C released from labeled lignin. In this portion, syringic acid, vanillic acid, p-hydroxy benzoic acid, acetic acid, and 2-methoxy-succinic acid were found. The majority of the water-soluble biodegradation products (89%) are lignin-carbohydrate complexes with molecular weizhts greater than 1000. Analysis of the gases resulting from lignin breakdown and metabolism reveals primarily C02, with smaller amounts of ethanol, methanol, and acetone. The gas phase, flushed out with air and recovered, constitutes 50% of the total lignin breakdown products.

A new species of bird’s nest fungi: characterisation of Cyathus subglobisporus sp. nov. based on morphological and molecular data

Recent collections of bird's nest fungi (i.e. Crucibulum, Cyathus, Mycocalia, Nidula, and Nidularia species) in northern Thailand resulted in the discovery of a new species of Cyathus, herein described as C. subglobisporus. This species is distinct by a combination of ivory-coloured fruiting bodies covered with shaggy hairs, plications on the inner surface of the peridium and subglobose basidio...

Survival and performance of two cellulose-degrading microbial systems inoculated into wheat straw-amended soil.

A cellulose-degrading composite microbial system containing a mixture of microbes was previously shown to demonstrate a high straw-degrading capacity. To estimate its potential utilization as an inoculant to accelerate straw biodegradation after returning straw to the field, two cellulose-degrading composite microbial systems named ADS3 and WSD5 were inoculated into wheat straw-amended soil in ...

Comparative Study on the Growth and Yield of Pleurotus Ostreatus Mushroom on Lignocellulosic by- Products

The edible mushroom Pleurotus ostreatus has been studied as a potential crop to reduce agricultural solid wastes and increase mushroom production. P. ostreatus cultivated on various agricultural wastes singly i.e. rice straw (RS), rice husk (RH) wheat straw (WH), barley straw (BS), and cotton wastes (CW). The biological efficiency (B.E) was 25.61, 9.51, 22.6, 21.628 and 25.78 % while rounding u...

Reinforcement of the bio-gas conversion from pyrolysis of wheat straw by hot caustic pre-extraction

Background Pyrolysis has attracted growing interest as a versatile means to convert biomass into valuable products. Wheat straw has been considered to be a promising biomass resource due to its low price and easy availability. However, most of the products obtained from wheat straw pyrolysis are usually of low quality. Hot soda extraction has the advantage of selective dissolution of lignin whi...

Evaluation of the Nutritional Value of Ammoniated Wheat Straw by Anhydrous Ammonia in Fattening Calves Feeding

Extended Abstract Introduction and Objective: Processing of agricultural by-products for animal feed can upgrade the supply of animal feed without increasing the current production and only by improving productivity via enhancing energy efficiency and maintaining it in the food supply chain, and at the same time, diminish the concerns of waste management, food security, resource constraints, a...
