Delay/Disruption-Tolerant Network Testing Using a LEO Satellite

چکیده
Delay/Disruption Tolerant Networking (DTN) “bundles” have been proposed for deep-space communication in the “Interplanetary Internet.” This paper describes the first DTN bundle protocol testing from space, using the United Kingdom Disaster Monitoring Constellation (UK-DMC) satellite in Low Earth Orbit (LEO). The mismatch problems between the different conditions of the private dedicated space-to-ground link and the shared, congested, ground-to-ground links are discussed. DTN, with its ability to transfer files on a hop-by-hop basis across different subnets, is presented as a technology that can be used to alleviate this problem. We describe our operational testing, as well as test configurations, goals and results, and lessons learned.

User Datagram and Bundle Protocol for Distributed Small Satellite Topologies
Many planned Earth observation satellite missions use distributed satellite systems in constellation or cluster orbits instead of one, large satellite with many instruments. This network of satellites and ground stations allows data to be efficiently downlinked. However, to create a networking protocol for constellations of small Earth observing satellites, several limitations need to be addres...

A novel LEO/MEO two-tier satellite communication system with inter-satellite links ( I S L r ) is proposed for providing multimedia services to global mobile users. This two-tier syxtem architecture can reduce the transmission delay for long-distunce users via ME0 satellites while keeping the benefits of using LEO satellites as the service access nodes. The routing and re-routing during a hando...

متن کاملAnalysis and Simulation of Delay and Buffer Requirements of satellite-ATM Networks for TCP/IP Traffic
In this paper we present a model to study the end-to-end delay performance of a satellite-ATM network. We describe a satellite-ATM network architecture. The architecture presents a trade-off between the on-board switching/processing features and the complexity of the satellite communication systems. The end-to-end delay of a connection passing through a satellite constellation consists of the t...
متن کاملLan Interconnection Systems Using Leo and Geo Satellites -a Simulation Study
There is an increasing demand for interconnecting LAN's at high data rates, e.g. remote X-Applications. Due to the lack of B-ISDN before the second decade of the next century, satellite systems are the only alternative. We compare the End-to-End cell delay of a geostationary satellite system with a low earth orbit satellite system by means of simulation. The comparison shows that the use of LEO...
