چکیده

I have been asked to speak on the Neuro-physiologicai changes produe as a result of stay at high altitudes. We have 110t done any work on thisan' unfortunately, there have not been many other studies reported on this. I w' therefore, present before you today whatever little is available in the publish literature; Mostly, workers carrying out physiological studies at high altitudes ha made certain general remarks about changes in the emotional behaviour and otb neuropsychological changes due to involvement of the central nervous system.

Physiological and biochemical responses of Quercus brantii seedlings to water deficit stress

Water shortage is one of the most important environmental stresses in Mediterranean regions. Poor seedling quality may account for the failure of oak regeneration. To determine the best seed origin of Quercus brantii, we investigated on seedlings collected from 20 mother trees in the Zagros Mountain forests 700 to 2200 m altitudes above sea level. Seedlings from different altitudes were irrig...

Soldiers’ load carriage performance in high mountains: a physiological study

BACKGROUND The present study was designed to evaluate load carriage performance at extremely high altitudes with different loads and walking speeds in terms of physiological evaluation. The degree of maximum oxygen consumption changes at high altitudes was also examined. METHODS Twelve Indian Army soldiers were acclimatized at altitudes of 3,505 m and 4,300 m. They walked for 10 minutes on a ...

Respiratory physiology of house sparrows in relation to high-altitude flight.

Some birds perform flapping flight at remarkably high altitudes. A commercial aircraft flying at 6400 m. (21,000 ft.) was struck by an object, evidently a mallard duck from the feathers recovered later from a dent in the aircraft (Manville, 1963). Radar echoes attributed to passeriform and charadriform birds have been regularly detected at altitudes of 6100 m. (20,000 ft.) or more during night ...

Physics and psychophysics of weightlessness.

T H E D E V E L O P M E N T of aviation is directed toward ever increasing velocities and altitudes. Already, today, aircraft fly at altitudes at which the density of the atmosphere is extremely low. According to the principles of mechanics, reduction or entire lack of weight will ensue during coasting maneuvers at high altitudes because mechanical support by the atmosphere is lacking/ Conseque...

Ocular Problems in High-Altitude Traveling: A Review With Focus on Management

Traveling to high altitudes can expose the eye to reduced ambient cold and low-pressure environments. These conditions can affect the physiology of the eye and may result in ocular problems and visual disturbances. In this paper, ocular disorders related to high altitudes are briefly reviewed. Then, high-altitude ocular disorders are categorized in three parts: those related to dry and cold env...
