چکیده
In the course of our screening program, a streptomyces strain S-288 was found to produce an antibiotic which exhibits a bulging effect^ against Piricularia oryzae. This strain was isolated from a soil sample collected at Mie Prefecture, Japan. As a result of taxonomic studies by the usual methods, its characteristics are summarized as follows: no whorl, no spiral, smooth surface of spores, yellowish brown growth with brownish gray aerial mycelium and yellowish brown soluble pigment on various media, non-chromogenic type, proteolytic action with peptonization of milk, and liquefaction of gelatin. Among the known species of streptomyces having these characteristics, Streptomyces aburaviensis Nishimura et al.2) and Streptomyces aburaviensis var. ablastmyceticus Hamada et Okami3) are most closely related to this strain. However, some differences are found among these strains as shown in Table 1. Therefore, the strain S-288 is designated as Streptomyces aburaviensis var. tuftformis var. nov. Mayama et Kawamura. The antibiotic, named bulgerin, was isolated from the fermentation broth of the

In vitro screening of antifungal activity of marine sponge extracts against five phytopathogenic fungi
The aim of our research is the screening of extracts of marine sponges for their antifungal activity against phytopathogenic fungi. The in vitro screening of hydroalcoholic and organic extracts of ten marine sponges from Atlantic coast of Morocco against five phytopathogenic fungi (Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. melonis, Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. radicis-lycopersici, Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. ciceris, ...
متن کاملAntifungal activity of recombinant rice LTP2 on some phytopathogenic fungi
Plant lipid transfer proteins (LTPs) are members of the pathogenesis-related proteins (PR-14) and some of them exhibit activity against phytopathogenic fungi. To investigate whether rice LTP2 plays a role in antifungal activity, the coding region of an Iranian rice Ltp2 gene was cloned into expression vector pET24-d(+) and then expressed in Escherichia coli Rosetta strain (DE3). The potential a...
متن کاملA nonspecific synergistic effect of biogenic silver nanoparticles and biosurfactant towards environmental bacteria and fungi
The present study focused on the evaluation of a nonspecific synergistic effect of biogenic silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) in combination with biosurfactants against environmental bacteria and fungi. The AgNPs were synthesized in the culture supernatants of the biosurfactant producer Bacillus subtilis grown in brewery effluent, molasses or Luria-Bertani media. Antibacterial activities were tested...
متن کاملThe alkaloid Berberine isolated from Coscinium fenestratum is an inhibitor of phytopathogenic fungi
Ethanol Crude extract of Cosicinium fenestratum stems (Gaertre) Coleb (Menispermaceae) exhibited inhibiting activity against seven plant pathogenic fungi and one antagonistic fungus when they were tested using the dilution method. Ethanolic crude extract of C. fenestratum stems was then fractionated by column chromatography using six organic solvents, and subsequent antimicrobial activity evalu...
متن کاملIsolation and characterization of Bacillus sp. producing broad-spectrum antibiotics against human and plant pathogenic fungi.
A strain of bacterium producing antifungal antibiotic was isolated and identification of the strain was attempted. We could identify the bacterium as being a Bacillus sp., based on morphological observation, physiological characteristics, and 16S rDNA sequence analysis, thus leading us to designate the strain as Bacillus sp. AH-E-1. The strain showed potent antibiotic activity against phytopath...
