چکیده

Metathesis of propene to ethene and 2-butenes was studied over a series of MoOx/SBA-15 catalysts (molybdenum oxide supported on mesoporous silica SBA-15; Mo loading 2.1~13.3 wt%, apparent Mo surface density 0.2~2.5 nm). The catalysts have been prepared by an ion exchange technique. Nitrogen adsorption, HMAS-NMR, Raman, and FTIR spectroscopies were applied to characterize the catalysts. Adsorption of the reactant propene and the probe molecule NH3 was studied by in situ FTIR, microcalorimetry and temperature-programmed desorption. Irrespective of the loading, only ca. 1% of the Mo atoms in the MoOx/SiO2 catalysts transform into active carbene (Mo=CHR) sites catalyzing propene metathesis. Isolated, distorted molybdenum dioxo species in close vicinity to two silanol groups have been shown to be the precursor of the active site. Targeted active site creation by pretreatment with methanol resulted in an increase in initial catalytic activity by a factor of 800.

Active site nature of magnesium dichloride-supported titanocene catalysts in olefin polymerization

Heterogeneous Ziegler-Natta and homogeneous metallocene catalysts exhibit greatly different active sitenature in olefin polymerization. In our previous study, it was reported that MgCl2-supported titanocenecatalysts can generate both Ziegler-Natta-type and metallocene-type active sites according to the type of activators. The dual active site nature of the supported titanocene catalysts was furt...

Olefin Metathesis by Supported Metal Oxide Catalysts

The literature of olefin metathesis by heterogeneous supported catalysts, both industrial-type supported metal oxides (ReOx/Al2O3, ReOx/(SiO2−Al2O3), MoOx/SiO2, MoOx/Al2O3, MoOx/(SiO2−Al2O3), WOx/SiO2, and WOx/ (SiO2−Al2O3)) and supported organometallic complexes, is comprehensively reviewed. The focus of this Review is supported metal oxide catalysts, but the well-defined supported organometal...

Highly Efficient Activation, Regeneration, and Active Site Identification of Oxide-Based Olefin Metathesis Catalysts

Supported metal oxide based olefin metathesis catalysts are widely used in the chemical industry. In comparison to their organometallic catalyst cousins, the oxide catalysts have much lower activity due to the very small fraction of active sites. We report that a simple pretreatment of MoO3/SiO2 and WO3/SiO2 under an olefincontaining atmosphere at elevated temperatures leads to a 100−1000fold i...

Nature of WOx Sites on SiO2 and Their Molecular Structure− Reactivity/Selectivity Relationships for Propylene Metathesis

Supported WOx/SiO2 catalysts were investigated for propylene metathesis as a function of tungsten oxide loading and temperature. The catalysts were synthesized by incipient-wetness impregnation of an aqueous ammonium metatungstate solution onto the silica support and calcined at elevated temperatures to form the supported tungsten oxide phase. In situ Raman spectroscopy under dehydrated conditi...

Well-defined silica-supported olefin metathesis catalysts.

Two triethoxysilyl-functionalized N-heterocyclic carbene ligands have been synthesized and used to prepare the corresponding second-generation ruthenium olefin metathesis catalysts. These complexes were then grafted onto silica gel, and the resulting materials were efficient heterogeneous catalysts for a number of metathesis reactions. The solid-supported catalysts were shown to be recyclable o...
