چکیده

We will study the solution of a congruence, x ≡ g(1/2)ωg(2 n) mod 2n, depending on the integers g and n, where ωg(2) denotes the order of g modulo 2n. Moreover, we introduce an application of the above result to the study of an estimation of exponential sums.

On the logarithmic factor in error term estimates in certain additive congruence problems

In additive number theory an important topic is the problem of finding an asymptotic formula for the number of solutions of a given congruence. In many additive congruences the error term estimates of asymptotic formulas contain logarithmic factors. The aim of the present paper is to illustrate application of double exponential sums and a multidimensional smoothing argument in removing these fa...

Translation invariance, exponential sums, and Waring’s problem

We describe mean value estimates for exponential sums of degree exceeding 2 that approach those conjectured to be best possible. The vehicle for this recent progress is the efficient congruencing method, which iteratively exploits the translation invariance of associated systems of Diophantine equations to derive powerful congruence constraints on the underlying variables. There are application...

On Sums of Squares of Primes Ii Glyn Harman and Angel Kumchev

Abstract. In this paper we continue our study, begun in [11], of the exceptional set of integers, not restricted by elementary congruence conditions, which cannot be represented as sums of three or four squares of primes. We correct a serious oversight in our first paper, but make further progress on the exponential sums estimates needed, together with an embellishment of the previous sieve tec...

Distributive lattices with strong endomorphism kernel property as direct sums

Unbounded distributive lattices which have strong endomorphism kernel property (SEKP) introduced by Blyth and Silva in [3] were fully characterized in [11] using Priestley duality (see Theorem  2.8}). We shall determine the structure of special elements (which are introduced after  Theorem 2.8 under the name strong elements) and show that these lattices can be considered as a direct product of ...

On Sums of Powers of Almost Equal Primes

We investigate the Waring-Goldbach problem of representing a positive integer n as the sum of s kth powers of almost equal prime numbers. Define sk = 2k(k − 1) when k > 3, and put s2 = 6. In addition, put θ2 = 19 24 , θ3 = 4 5 and θk = 5 6 (k > 4). Suppose that n satisfies the necessary congruence conditions, and put X = (n/s). We show that whenever s > sk and ε > 0, and n is sufficiently large...
