Towards an Analytical Model for Film Cooling Prediction using Integral Turbulent Boundary layer

The objective of this work is to develop deep theoretical methods that are based on the solution of the integral boundary layer equations for investigating film cooling in liquid rocket engine. The integral model assumes that heat is transferred from hot free stream gas to the liquid film both by convection and radiation. The mass is transferred to the free srteam gas by the well-known blowing ...

Assessment of various rotor tip geometries on a single stage gas turbine performance

Tip leakage loss introduces major part of losses of the rotor in axial gas turbines. Therefore, the rotor blade tip has a considerable effect on rotor efficiency. To understand the flow physics of the rotor tip leakage, we solve the flow field for different tip platforms (passive flow control) and by considering coolant tip injection (active flow control). Various blade tip configurations s...

Study of Parameters Affecting Separation Bubble Size in High Speed Flows using k-ω Turbulence Model

Shock waves generated at different parts of vehicle interact with the boundary layer over the surface at high Mach flows. The adverse pressure gradient across strong shock wave causes the flow to separate and peak loads are generated at separation and reattachment points. The size of separation bubble in the shock boundary layer interaction flows depends on various parameters. Reynolds-averaged...

Effects of coupling on turbulent gas-particle boundary layer flows at borderline volume fractions using kinetic theory

This study is concerned with the prediction of particles’ velocity in a dilute turbulent gas-solidboundary layer flow using a fully Eulerian two-fluid model. The closures required for equationsdescribing the particulate phase are derived from the kinetic theory of granular flows. Gas phaseturbulence is modeled by one-equation model and solid phase turbulence by MLH theory. Resultsof one-way and...

The Dissipation of Trapped Lee Waves. Part II: The Relative Importance of the Boundary Layer and the Stratosphere

Decaying trapped waves exert a drag on the large-scale flow. The two most studied mechanisms for such decay are boundary layer dissipation and leakage into the stratosphere. If the waves dissipate in the boundary layer, they exert a drag near the surface, whereas, if they leak into the stratosphere, the drag is exerted at the level where the waves dissipate aloft. Although each of these decay m...
