An unusual case of pigmented villonodular synovitis after unicompartmental knee arthroplasty

چکیده
Introduction: Pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) after replacement arthroplasty is a potential cause of postoperative pain and hemarthrosis. The disease is difficult to diagnose after arthroplasty, since magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) appearances are subject to metal artifact making them less than ideal. Case Report: A case of a 61yearold woman with PVNS after unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA). She was treated with an arthroscopic synovectomy with good result. Conclusion: MRI evaluation of the residual side of the knee joint after UKA is valuable for the differential diagnosis of PVNS.

A rare case of pigmented villonodular synovitis after unicompartmental knee replacement: a case report
Pigmented villonodular synovitis is a benign proliferative disease involving the synovium. Pigmented villonodular synovitis is rare after replacement arthroplasty and has not been recognised and reported as a cause of failure of unicompartmental knee replacement in the literature.

Recurrent hemarthrosis after knee arthroplasty can be disabling, requiring adequate and immediate diagnosis and treatment for recovery of symptoms and joint function. The most commonly reported cause is impingement of proliferative synovium between prosthetic components. Although various procedures for hemarthrosis have been reported after knee arthroplasty for patients who do not respond to co...
متن کاملUnusual cases of pigmented villonodular synovitis after arthroplasty.
Pigmented Villonodular Synovitis (PVNS) is a relatively rare, benign proliferation lesion of the synovium of large joints. The etiology is varied and unclear. We had report a 79-year-old woman had PVNS after 14 years right hip arthroplasty with metal prosthesis. Here we report another 4 patients had PVNS after arthroplasty. The second one had PVNS in the 2(th) year after hip arthroplasty with b...
متن کاملRecurrent hemarthrosis caused by loosening of the femoral component after unicompartmental knee arthroplasty: a case report
A case of recurrent hemarthrosis of the knee after a mobile-bearing unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA; Oxford UKA) is described. A 58-year-old man met with a road traffic accident 10 months after UKA. He developed anteromedial pain and hemarthrosis of the knee joint 1 month after the accident, which required multiple aspirations. Physical examination showed no instability. Plain radiograp...

This paper reports a case of diffuse pigmented villonodular synovitis (DPVNS), associated with advanced gonarthrosis, submitted to total knee replacement. The patient had progressive pain and swelling. She had two previous surgeries, firstly arthroscopic synovectomy and subsequently open synovectomy associated with radiotherapy, with recurrence of the disease. Magnetic resonance imaging reveale...
