Productivity of Renovated Naturalized Pastures Inatlantic Canada

چکیده
22-151 ABSTRACT The main objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness and improved productivity of reduced tillage pasture renovation methods in the establishment of triple species pasture mixtures into an existing naturalized stand. Experimental treatments, 2 (low and high stocking rates) by 2 (frostand sod-seeding methods) factorial with an additional non-renovated pasture control treatment, were arranged in a randomized complete block design with two replications. Despite the fact that high stocking rates resulted in reduced herbage yield, animal production per hectare was substantially improved in the establishment and the first postestablishment year. Sod-seeding was the most effective establishment method of introducing species and resulted in numerically higher total animal gain per hectare (gain/ha) than frost-seeding and control treatments. Frost-seeding had no effect on the establishment of introduced species and animal performance.

Canada thistle remains the most common and troublesome weed of pastures, roadsides and other areas of low-maintenance sods. Even though numerous herbicides have excellent activity on Canada thistle, the extensive root system of this species complicates longterm management. This paper will discuss recent research conducted in Alberta, Canada investigating the role of pasture fertilization in Can...

Alpine grasslands on the Tibetan Plateau are claimed to be sensitive and vulnerable to climate change and human disturbance. The mechanism, direction and magnitude of climatic and anthropogenic influences on net primary productivity (NPP) of various alpine pastures remain under debate. Here, we simulated the potential productivity (with only climate variables being considered as drivers; NPPP) ...
متن کاملImproving The Productivity Of Beef Pastures In Northwest Minnesota
Pastures are an underutilized and under-managed resource on many beef operations. Is it worthwhile to place more management emphasis on pastures? One might think that given the long winters we face in northwest Minnesota, we have to rely so heavily on conserved forages anyway that better management of pastures during the relatively short window they are useable may not be worth the effort. Howe...
