Dual-IR late gadolinium enhancement achieves better blood suppression than traditional IR in a swine model of atrial radiofrequency ablation scar

چکیده
Background A good correlation has been found between the extent of late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) and clinical outcome in patients who have undergone radiofrequency (RF) ablation for atrial fibrillation (AF). Residual blood signal with the traditional inversion-recovery (IR) sequence often hampers scar visualization in these patients and causes poor repeatability of scar size measurements. The dual-IR sequence has previously been shown to improve blood suppression in LGE images of myocardial infarction. We sought to assess whether the superior blood suppression with the dual-IR sequence would improve atrial scar definition in a swine model of chronic atrial radiofrequency ablation scar.

The dual-IR sequence improves the inter-observer correlation in post-ablation atrial scar size measurements compared with the traditional IR sequence
Background A good correlation has been found between the extent of late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) and clinical outcome in patients who have undergone radiofrequency (RF) ablation for atrial fibrillation (AF). However, there can be strong residual blood signal in the traditional inversion-recovery (IR) sequence, which hampers scar visualization and causes poor repeatability of scar size measu...
متن کاملDependence of contrast to noise ratio between ablation scar and other tissues on patient heart rate and flip angle for late gadolinium enhancement imaging of the left atrium
Background Radiofrequency (RF) ablation of the left atrium (LA) and pulmonary vein ostia has become a clinically acceptable therapy for atrial fibrillation (AF). High-resolution 3D Late Gadolinium Enhancement (LGE) imaging can detect pre-ablation re-modeling of the LA wall and also visualize post-ablation scar in AF patients treated using RF ablation. The 3D Inversion Recovery prepared Gradient...
متن کاملAutomatic scar segmentation in dual inversion recovery images is more consistent with manual outlining than in conventional inversion recovery images
Background The dual inversion recovery (dual IR) pulse sequence has recently been shown to improve blood suppression and infarct delineation in late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) images of myocardial infarction. This resulted in significantly lower inter-observer variability in manual outlining of scar and higher expert confidence in scar detection and transmurality when compared with convention...
متن کاملPost ablation timing to best visualize left-atrial Llesions: a feasibility study
Background Catheter-based atrial fibrillation (AF) therapy often uses cryo-balloon ablation of pulmonary vein (PV) ostia to achieve rhythm control. Prior studies suggest the ability of late gadolinium enhancement cardiac MRI (LGE-MRI) to visualize radiofrequency-induced scar. The optimal time after therapy to visualize cryo-ablation lesions is unknown. This study evaluates the relationship betw...
متن کاملDark regions of no-reflow on late gadolinium enhancement magnetic resonance imaging result in scar formation after atrial fibrillation ablation.
OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to assess acute ablation injuries seen on late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) immediately post-ablation (IPA) and the association with permanent scar 3 months post-ablation (3moPA). BACKGROUND Success rates for atrial fibrillation catheter ablation vary significantly, in part because of limited information about the location,...
