An Exploratory Study on BYOD in Class: Opportunities and Concerns

During the past several years, there has been a virtual explosion in the mobile device arena. Institutions of all sizes and types (corporations, governments, education, etc.) are utilizing or in the stage of adopting mobile devices, and increasingly adopting / allowing BYOD (Bring Your Own Device). While this trend has impacted organizations worldwide, a more significant impact can be seen in higher education and resources available to prepare students for the workplace. The current research evaluates BYOD in education by evaluating differences in BYOD users and non-users as well as cultural views on BYOD through a comparison of American and Korean students. The results of the survey provide valuable insight to the tools used by students and how they use those tools to enhance their education.
