On the Localization and Computation of Zeros of Bessel Functions

ثبت نشده
چکیده

The topological degree of a continuous mapping is implemented for the calculation of the total number of the simple real zeros within any interval of the Bessel functions of first and second kind and their derivatives. A new algorithm, based on this implementation, is given for the localization and isolation of these zeros. Furthermore, a second algorithm is presented for their computation employing a modified bisection method. The only information required for this computation i s the algebraic signs of function values. Moreover, lower and upper bounds of a zero can also be obtained.

Recent software developments for special functions in the Santander-Amsterdam project

We give an overview of published algorithms by our group and of current activities and future plans. In particular, we give details on methods for computing special functions and discuss in detail two current lines of research. Firstly, we describe the recent developments for the computation of central and non-central χ-square cumulative distributions (also called Marcum Q−functions), and we pr...

Orthogonality, Lommel integrals and cross product zeros of linear combinations of Bessel functions

The cylindrical Bessel differential equation and the spherical Bessel differential equation in the interval [Formula: see text] with Neumann boundary conditions are considered. The eigenfunctions are linear combinations of the Bessel function [Formula: see text] or linear combinations of the spherical Bessel functions [Formula: see text]. The orthogonality relations with analytical expressions ...

A combined symbolic and numerical algorithm for the computation of zeros of orthogonal polynomials and special functions

A Maple algorithm for the computation of the zeros of orthogonal polynomials (OPs) and special functions (SFs) in a given interval [x1, x2] is presented. The program combines symbolic and numerical calculations and it is based on fixed point iterations. The program uses as inputs the analytic expressions for the coefficients of the three-term recurrence relation and a differencedifferential rel...

Some Analytical and Numerical Consequences of Sturm Theorems

The Sturm comparison theorems for second order ODEs are classical results from which information on the properties of the zeros of special functions can be obtained. Sturm separation and comparison theorems are also available for difference-differential systems under oscillatory conditions. The separation theorem provides interlacing information for zeros of some special functions and the compa...

Reliable Computation of the Zeros of Solutions of Second Order Linear ODEs Using a Fourth Order Method

A fourth order fixed point method to compute the zeros of solutions of second order homogeneous linear ODEs is obtained from the approximate integration of the Riccati equation associated with the ODE. The method requires the evaluation of the logarithmic derivative of the function and also uses the coefficients of the ODE. An algorithm to compute with certainty all the zeros in an interval is ...
