The Internal Nitrogen Cycle Betweenmicroorganisms, vegetationand Soil

چکیده

The major portion of the global nitrogen cycle occurs between vegetation and soil, only minor exchanges generally taking place with the atmosphere and the hydrosphere. Nitrogen conversions in soil are briefly reviewed and a global flow chart for soil nitrogen is presented. The turnover times of nitrogen in various components of this global system are compared with its turnover times in some selected ecosystems. It is shown that 95 % of the nitrogen flow in the global terrestrial system is restricted to the plant-micro organism-soil system; only 5 % of the total flow is concerned with exchanges to and from the atmosphere and the hydrosphere.

Effects of Rangeland Restoration (Contour Furrows, and Mortar Stone Dam) on Soil Fertilization (Case Study: Silvana Region, West Azerbaijan Province, Iran)

The overgrazing and excessive utilization of rangelands has caused vegetationand soil degradation in many rangelands. In the rangeland management, the soil andvegetation elements, environmental factors and livestock should be considered as decisionmaking agents. Various methods are applicable for the rangeland restoration as contourfurrows and mortar stone dam. In order to evaluate the effects ...

Enumeration of Microbes and Gas Production during Denitrification and Nitrogen Fixation Processes in Soil

Dry plant material contains 2-4% nitrogen, making it an essential nutrient for all plants. The nitrogen cycle regulates the pathways which transform nitrogen from a relatively inert dinitrogen gas to forms of organic nitrogen such as proteins and nucleic acids. Denitrification and nitrogen fixation are the two most important processes that remove and add nitrogen to the soil, respectively. The ...

Nitrogen deposition may enhance soil carbon storage via change of soil respiration dynamic during a spring freeze-thaw cycle period

As crucial terrestrial ecosystems, temperate forests play an important role in global soil carbon dioxide flux, and this process can be sensitive to atmospheric nitrogen deposition. It is often reported that the nitrogen addition induces a change in soil carbon dioxide emission in growing season. However, the important effects of interactions between nitrogen deposition and the freeze-thaw-cycl...

Responses of ecosystem nitrogen cycle to nitrogen addition: a meta-analysis.

• Anthropogenic nitrogen (N) addition may substantially alter the terrestrial N cycle. However, a comprehensive understanding of how the ecosystem N cycle responds to external N input remains elusive. • Here, we evaluated the central tendencies of the responses of 15 variables associated with the ecosystem N cycle to N addition, using data extracted from 206 peer-reviewed papers. • Our results ...
