Correlation functions of scattering matrix elements in microwave cavities with strong absorption
نویسندگان
چکیده
The scattering matrix was measured for microwave cavities with two antennas. It was analyzed in the regime of overlapping resonances. The theoretical description in terms of a statistical scattering matrix and the rescaled BreitWigner approximation has been applied to this regime. The experimental results for the auto-correlation function show that the absorption in the cavity walls yields an exponential decay. This behavior can only be modeled using a large number of weakly coupled channels. In comparison to the auto-correlation functions, the cross-correlation functions of the diagonal S-matrix elements display a more pronounced difference between regular and chaotic systems. Correlation functions and fidelity decay in chaotic systems
In this work several aspects of quantum chaos are studied in the time domain. The wave equation for flat microwave cavities is equivalent to the Schrödinger equation in quantum mechanics. Therefore microwave measurements provide an experimental approach to quantum chaos. The experiments are described in terms of scattering theory, to take the coupling of the antennas to the system as well as th...
متن کاملCorrelation Functions of Impedance and Scattering Matrix Elements in Chaotic Absorbing Cavities
Wave scattering in chaotic systems with a uniform energy loss (absorption) is considered. Within the random matrix approach we calculate exactly the energy correlation functions of different matrix elements of impedance or scattering matrices for systems with preserved or broken time-reversal symmetry. The obtained results are valid at any number of arbitrary open scattering channels and arbitr...

متن کاملLong-range correlations in disordered graphene
The appearence of long-range correlations near the Dirac point of a Dirac-like spinor model with random vector potential is studied. These correlations originate from a spontaneously broken symmetry and their corresponding Goldstone modes. Using a strong-disorder expansion, correlation functions and matrix elements are analyzed and compared with results from a weak-disorder expansion. The local...

In this paper, we study the scattering, absorption and emission of waves by random rough surfaces with exponential correlation functions and compare the results with that of Gaussian correlation functions. The studies are conducted in two area of applications (i) microwave remote sensing of land surfaces and (ii) absorption loss in metal in interconnects. In microwave remote sensing of land sur...
