چکیده

The aerosol first indirect effect is known to cool the Earth radiatively. However, its magnitude is very uncertain. One of the difficulties in deriving this effect is caused by the coherent variation between aerosol abundance and meteorological conditions. In this study, we demonstrate that evaluation of the aerosol first indirect effect based on comparisons of clouds with different aerosol concentrations suffers an influence of the different degrees of mixing between clean and polluted clouds. By introducing a new method capable to remove this influence, we show that the strength of the aerosol first indirect effect is about half of that estimated by many previous investigators.

The Role of Adiabaticity in the Aerosol First Indirect Effect

Aerosol indirect effects are the most uncertain of the climate forcing mechanisms that have operated through the industrial period. Several studies have demonstrated modifications of cloud properties due to aerosols and corresponding changes in shortwave and longwave radiative fluxes under specific cloud conditions, but some recent studies have indicated that cloud dynamical processes such as e...

Uncertainties in global aerosols and climate effects due to biofuel emissions

Aerosol emissions from biofuel combustion impact both health and climate; however, while reducing emissions through improvements to combustion technologies will improve health, the net effect on climate is largely unconstrained. In this study, we examine sensitivities in global aerosol concentration, direct radiative climate effect, and cloud-albedo aerosol indirect climate effect to uncertaint...

Effect of Filter Inhomogeneity on Deep-Bed Filtration Process – A CFD Investigation

Aerosol filtration in fibrous filters is one of the principal methods of removal of solid particles from the gas stream. The classical theory of depth filtration is based on the assumption of existing single fiber efficiency, which may be used to the recalculation of the overall efficiency of the entire filter. There are several reasons for inappropriate estimation of the single fi...

Aerosol-cloud relationships in continental shallow cumulus

[1] Aerosol-cloud relationships are derived from 14 warm continental cumuli cases sampled during the 2006 Gulf of Mexico Atmospheric Composition and Climate Study (GoMACCS) by the Center for Interdisciplinary Remotely-Piloted Aircraft Studies (CIRPAS) Twin Otter aircraft. Cloud droplet number concentration is clearly proportional to the subcloud accumulation mode aerosol number concentration. A...

Numerical analysis of thermal-hydraulic properties of turbulent aerosol-carbon black nanofluid flow in corrugated solar collectors with double application

In this study the effects of corrugated absorber plate and using aerosol-carbon black nanofluid on heat transfer and turbulent flow in solar collectors with double application and air heating collectors, were numerically investigated. The two-dimensional continuity, momentum and energy equation were solved by finite volume and SIMPLE algorithm. In the present investigation all the simulations w...
