Nitrogen in human dental enamel.
نویسنده
چکیده
Dental enamel is the structure which is first exposed to the attack of dental caries, and the success or failure of this attack depends on many factors, among them the chemical nature and structure of the enamel. Some authors (Pincus, 1939; Gottlieb, 1947) go so far as to postulate that the caries process is initially a proteolytic one. In this connexion the nitrogenous material of enamel is of interest. The object of the present experiments was to estimate the nitrogen content of enamel on samples of material which were representative of the main enamel mass and uncontaminated by dentine. Enamel is firmly attached to the underlying dentine which contains about 3-5% nitrogen compared with about 0-15% in enamel. On these figures, even a 2% dentine impurity would increase the enamel nitrogen by about 60 %.

FT-Raman Spectroscopic Studies of Nd/YAG Laser Irradiated Human Dental Enamel
FTR-Raman Spectra of human dental enamel, both laser-irradiated and untreated, are reported. Spectra are compared with hydroxyapatite. It is evident that unlike the CO2 laser, the Nd/YAG laser does not induce any chemical change in dental enamel.
متن کاملPreparation of Large Quantities of Powdered Enamel.
Powdered enamel of extracted human teeth has been used in the estimation of the activity of anticaries agents (S. D. GERSHON, 0. W. NEIDITCH, and R. H. C. LEE, Proc. Toilet Goods Ass., 28:14-17, 1957), as well as a number of studies with a direct or indirect relation to this activity. Correlation of results with different samples of enamel has been difficult because of the numerous variables. I...
متن کاملEffects of Light-cured versus No-mix and Self-etch Primer Adhesives on Enamel Discoloration following Orthodontic Bracket Bonding
Introdouction: According to the importance of enamel discoloration and controversy regarding the effect of different orthodontic bonding materials on tooth discoloration, the aim of this study was to determine enamel discoloration following orthodontic brackets using different bonding materials. Materials and methods: This in-vitro study, 30 recently extracted human premolars with inta...
متن کاملComparative Evaluation of Fracture Strength of Cusp Coverage with Composite Versus Unsupported Enamel Reinforced with Composite in Posterior Dental Restorations
Background and aim: Efficient bonding techniques should be employed for strengthening tooth structure. Whether to preserve intact dental tissue or to sacrifice some undermined parts can still be challenging. We aimed to evaluate the fracture strength of cusp coverage with composite versus unsupported enamel reinforced with composite in posterior restorations. Materials and methods: In this in...
متن کاملTranslucency of human dental enamel.
Translucency of human dental enamel was determined by total transmittance of wavelengths from 400 to 700 nm. The transmission coefficient at 525 nm was 0.481 mm-1. Total transmission of light through human dental enamel increased with increasing wavelength. Human tooth enamel is more translucent at higher wavelengths. The translucency of wet human enamel and enamel after dehydration was also me...
