چکیده

An analytical derivation of quantization error in filter banks using additive and signal dependent noise models is presented. The coding gain over PCM is derived for both noise models. Interesting properties of coding gain in optimized filter banks with an AR(1) input signal model, asymptotic performance of multirate systems, and the analytical constraints required to achieve such performance are discussed. Connections to the recent developments of optimal subband systems are presented.

Boundary filters with maximum coding gain and ideal DC behavior for size-limited paraunitary filter banks

This paper presents boundary optimization techniques for the processing of arbitrary-length signals with paraunitary multirate filter banks. The boundary filters are designed to maximize the coding gain while providing an ideal DC behavior. Thus, all filters except the lowpass filter are designed to have zero mean. The proposed methods give direct solutions to the problem of finding optimal bou...

A class of M-channel linear-phase biorthogonal filter banks and their applications to subband coding

This correspondence presents a new factorization for linearphase biorthogonal perfect reconstruction (PR) FIR filter banks. Using this factorization, we propose a new family of lapped transform called the generalized lapped transform (GLT). Since the analysis and synthesis filters of the GLT are not restricted to be the time reverses of each other, they can offer more freedom to avoid blocking ...

Discrete Zak Transforms, Polyphase Transforms, and Applications - Signal Processing, IEEE Transactions on

We consider three different versions of the Zak transform (ZT) for discrete-time signals, namely, the discretetime ZT, the polyphase transform, and a cyclic discrete ZT. In particular, we show that the extension of the discrete-time ZT to the complex z-plane results in the polyphase transform, an important and well-known concept in multirate signal processing and filter bank theory. We discuss ...

Orthonormal and biorthonormal filter banks as convolvers, and convolutional coding gain

A maximally decimated filter bank system (with possibly unequal decimation ratios in the subbands) can be regarded as a generalization of the short-time Fourier transformer. In fact, it is known that such a “filter bank transformer” is closely related to the wavelet transformation. A natural question that arises when we conceptually pass from the traditional Fourier transformer to the filter ba...

Design of Prefilters for Discrete Multiwavelet Transforms - Signal Processing, IEEE Transactions on

The pyramid algorithm for computing single wavelet transform coefficients is well known. The pyramid algorithm can be implemented by using tree-structured multirate filter banks. In this paper, we propose a general algorithm to compute multiwavelet transform coeficients by adding proper premultirate filter banks before the vector filter banks that generate multiwavelets. The proposed algorithm ...
