Queues Are Databases

چکیده

Message-oriented-middleware (MOM) has become an small industry. MOM offers queued transaction processing as an advance over pure client-server transaction processing. This note makes four points: Queued transaction processing is less general than direct transaction processing. Queued systems are built on top of direct systems. You cannot build a direct system atop a queued system. It is difficult to build direct, conversational, or distributed transactions atop a queued system. Queues are interesting databases with interesting concurrency control. It is best to build these mechanisms into a standard database system so other applications can use these interesting features. Queue systems need DBMS functionality. Queues need security, configuration, performance monitoring, recovery, and reorganization utilities. Database systems already have these features. A full-function MOM system duplicates these database features. Queue managers are simple TP-monitors managing server pools driven by queues. Database systems are encompassing many server pool features as they evolve to TPlite systems. 1 Acknowledgments: These ideas derive from discussions with Andrea Borr (Oracle), Richard Carr (Tandem), Dieter Gawlick (Oracle), Pat Helland (Microsoft), Franco Putzolu (Oracle), Andreas Reuter (U. Stuttgart) and Bill Highliman (NetWeave).

SOME GENERALIZATIONS OF WEAK CONVERGENCE RESULTS ON MULTIPLE CHANNEL QUEUES IN HEAVY TRAFFIC.

This paper extends certain results of Iglehart and Whitt on multiple channel queues to the case where the inter-arrival times and service times are not necessarily identically distributed. It is shown that the weak convergence results in this case are exactly the same as those obtained by Iglehart and Whitt

Longest Path in Networks of Queues in the Steady-State

Due to the importance of longest path analysis in networks of queues, we develop an analytical method for computing the steady-state distribution function of longest path in acyclic networks of queues. We assume the network consists of a number of queuing systems and each one has either one or infinite servers. The distribution function of service time is assumed to be exponential or Erlang. Fu...

Poisson Winner Queues

Kleinrock, L. and F. Mehovi6, Poisson winner queues, Performance Evaluation 14 (1992) 79-101. We study special types of queues, winner queues, in which all customers are served concurrently. A customer in a winner queue will successfully finish his service (i.e. "win") and leave if no other customer leaves during his current service. Once a customer wins, all others in service at that time "los...

Bernoulli Vacation Policy for a Bulk Retrial Queue with Fuzzy Parameters

In this paper, we investigate the fuzzy logic based system characteristics of MX/G/1 retrial queuing system with Bernoulli vacation schedule. The service time and vacation time are assumed to be generally distributed. It is found in many practical situations that the queuing models with fuzzy parameters are much more realistic than the classical crisp parameters based queuing models. We have...

Mining Frequent Patterns Using Queues In Large Databases

The proposed model helps mining frequent patterns in large databases by implementing queue data structure. The whole database is scanned only once and the data is compressed in the form of patterns in the queue structure. The frequent patterns are mined from this compressed database of queue structure. This queue approach brings efficiency in mining as the number of database scans is effectivel...
