A Digital Reverberator Controlled through Measures of the Reverberation

چکیده
A simple but efficient stereo reverberation control is developed to simulate reverberation. Inspired from previous classic studies, the reverberator is built using simple digital filters, including comb filters and all-pass filters commonly used for digitally simulating reverberation. The digital reverberator incorporates low-pass filters to simulate the air and walls absorption effect, gains to control the wet/dry effect and a delay difference parameter to introduce a difference between the channels. A total of 21 digital parameters define the whole reverberation control. Five measures commonly used to characterize reverberation are defined from the impulse response, and formulae are derived to estimate values of these reverberation measures in terms of the digital parameters for the reverberator. Dependence relations between the digital parameters lead to the need of only five independent parameters to control the whole reverberator, so that the measures can be redefined as five functions of five independent parameters. This mapping parameters-measures is used to let the reverberator to be controlled through the measures of the reverberation, in other words the reverberator can generate a reverberation effect based on desired characteristics of the reverberation itself. Binaural reverberation using a modified Jot reverberator with frequency-dependent interaural coherence matching
An extension of the Jot reverberator is presented, producing binaural late reverberation where the interaural coherence can be controlled as a function of frequency such that it matches the frequency-dependent interaural coherence of a reference binaural room impulse response (BRIR). The control of the interaural coherence is implemented using linear filters outside the reverberator’s recursive...
متن کاملLearning to Control a Reverberator Using Subjective Perceptual Descriptors
The complexity of existing tools for mastering audio can be daunting. Moreover, many people think about sound in individualistic terms (such as “boomy”) that may not have clear mappings onto the controls of existing audio tools. We propose learning to map subjective audio descriptors, such as “boomy”, onto measures of signal properties in order to build a simple controller that manipulates an a...
متن کاملComposing The System “Filter” And The System “Reverberator”
Filtering and reverberation are two closely linked techniques of digital signal processing. The mathematics of DSP are daunting, and will not be discussed in this brief overview. Rather, I would like to present to other composers the structural relations that define the system “filter” and the system “reverberator”, and some potentials for creative work that remain to be tried out. Locally, Mic...
متن کاملSpectrogram Study of Echo and Reverberation- A Novel Approach to Reduce Echo and Reverberation in Room Acoustics
This paper presents new approach to enhance the quality of sound signal perceived by the listener in a concert hall considering Spectrogram and Single Spectrum Plot. We simulate a natural concert hall using Digital Echo and Schroeder Reverberator models. We analyze the results using Spectrogram and Single Spectrum Plots and finally propose a model for better analysis of room acoustics.

Artificial reverberator is a key element in spatial audio reproduction. This paper compares various optimal design strategies of artificial reverberators for room response simulation. From the comparison, it is hoped that guidelines for design of natural-sounding reverberators can be found. Infinite impulse response (IIR) filters such as allpass filters or comb filters are used as building bloc...
