چکیده

The shift and broadening of the vibrational frequency of a diatomic molecule adsorbed on a metal surface are calculated on the basis of electromagnetic interactions. Finite molecular size and nonlocal metal response are included in a calculation of the response function, whose pole is the complex normal mode frequency. Finite molecular size is described by a model of a point-like vibrational mode within a polarizable sphere. Nonlocal metal response is described by a semiclassical infinite barrier model with a Lindhard dielectric constant generalized to include core polarization and finite electron lifetime. When applied to the case of CO adsorbed on Cu and if the molecule is positioned so as to fit the observed width, it is found the predicted shift is a factor of three or more greater than that observed.

Electronic Spectral Line Shape of a Diatomic Molecule

The electronic absorption spectral line shape of a diatomic molecule with harmonic potential curves is calculated using the time correlation function formalism. Both the equilibrium shift and the frequency shift of the two linking electronic states ate taken into account. The spectrum is also calculated using the cumulated expansion which is related to the correlation function of the time-d...

Insights into the Anomalous Vibrational Frequency Shifts of CO2 Adsorbed to Metal Sites in Microporous Frameworks

Diffuse reflectance infrared (IR) spectroscopy was used to study the structure and dynamics of H2 and CO2 adsorbed within the isostructural metal−organic frameworks M2L (M = Mg, Mn, Fe, Co, Zn; L = 2,5-dioxidobenzene-1,4-dicarboxylate) referred to as M-MOF-74 and CPO-27-M. Cluster models of the primary adsorption site were excised from periodic models that were optimized using plane-wave densit...

Determination of e ω , e e x ω , e B , and e α using potential energy functions for heteronuclear diatomic molecules via spreadsheet program

In order to represent the potential energy function over the whole range of R, many potentialenergy functions have been proposed. In the present paper, we employ many potential energyfunctions, to use Numerov method for solving the nuclear Schrödinger equation for the IFmolecule, as an example of a heteronuclear diatomic molecules. Then we determine thespectroscopic constants eω , e e x ω , e B...

CO Adsorption on the V (100) Surface: A Density Functional Study

Adsorption of CO molecule on the Vanadium surface has been studied by using of the DFT method with LANL2DZ,6-31G* and 6-31G** basis sets by GGA approximation of theory. Using periodic first principles simulations we investigate the interaction of oxygen molecule with regular V (100) surface. The limitation of this approach is the use of thin metallic slabs with a limited range for their coverag...

The adsorption of nit ric oxide on a Cu(1l1) surface has been studi ed using X-ray photoelectron (XPS) and high resolution e lectron energy loss spectroscopies (HREEL) in the tcmpenllurc range 80-410 K. Nitricoxide had no interacation with surface at room tempe rature, while it was adsorbed molecularly on un an nealed Cu surface and then dissociated to ni trogen and oxygen atoms. Exposure...
