High Voltage Sparking in a Decommissioned Cesr Horizontal Separator
نویسنده
چکیده
As expected a substantial number of arcing scars were found on the ends of the high voltage electrodes. This area was known to be a source of intense xray radiation during high voltage processing. Also, the ends of the electrodes were quite close to the (grounded) chamber wall and had rather sharp radii resulting in peak electric eld levels that were many times higher than the electric eld between the electrodes. Using Passive Cavities for Bunch Shortening in Cesr*
Passive (beam-driven) superconducting cavities can be used in storage rings for bunch shortening when necessary high RF voltage can be achieved only by using multiple cavities, but the beam power consumption does not justify using all of them in the active mode, powered by klystrons. An example is the ee collider CESR running with a beam energy below 2.5 GeV as a charm-tau factory (CESR-c) [1]....
متن کاملCesr Status and Plans
The CESR electron positron collider has been con gured to operate with trains of closely spaced bunches that collide with a small horizontal crossing angle. The crossing angle scenario provides for an increase from seven to as many as 45 bunches per beam. Two pairs of electrostatic separators yield di erential horizontal closed orbits for the electron and positron beams. The separators are powe...
متن کاملPerformance of the Cesr Superconducting Rf System and Future Plans*
As we have reported at the last SRF Workshop two years ago, staged transition of the Cornell Electron Storage Ring (CESR) RF System from normal conducting to superconducting was completed in September 1999 with installation of the fourth superconducting B-cell cavity [1]. Since that time the last cavity has been commissioned and RF system has operated stably providing CESR beams with up to 1.13...
متن کاملThe Dynamic Beta E ect in CESR
In a colliding beam storage ring the Twiss parameters are a ected by the quadrupolar focusing of the beam{beam interaction. Like any quadrupole error this `dynamic beta' e ect is enhanced by running near a half{integer or integer resonance. The recent change in the operating point of CESR so that the horizontal tune is just above a half{integer resonance has resulted in the dynamic beta e ect h...
