چکیده

• The influence of heniodynamic variables on the duration of certain phases of ventricular systole has been studied by several investigators in intact animals and in isolated heart preparations.' Even in isolated hearts, it is not possible to change one heniodynainic variable without inducing changes in one or more intrinsic determinants of the heart's performance. For example, augmenting stroke volume at constant aortic pressure increases ventricular end-diastolic pressure and fiber length. Similarly, changes of aortic pressure or heart rate are each accompanied by adjustments of myocardial contractility. We felt, however, that a systematic analysis of the effects of changing selected hemodynamic variables on the duration of each phase of left ventricular systole might help to characterize further the intrinsic mechanisms of cardiac adaptation. This report describes the effects of altering separately stroke volume, mean aortic pressure and heart rate on the duration of left ventricular isovolumic contraction, ejection and total systole. The effects of digitalization and norepiuephrine infusion are also described.

Duration of phases of left ventricular systole using indirect methods. I. Normal subjects.

The duration of the various phases of left ventricular systole has been measured in a series of So normal subjects using high speed simultaneous recordings of the electrocardiogram, the phonocardiogram, the carotid pulse, and the apex cardiogram. The five phases of systole measured were: total electromechanical systole (Q-A2 interval); left ventricular ejection time (LVET); pre-ejection period ...

Comparison of Cardiac Function in Young Patients with Thalassemia Intermedia and Healthy Individuals Using Echocardiography Method

Background: Cardiac dysfunction due to chronic anemia and hemosiderosis are the major causes of death among patients with thalassemia intermedia. This study was performed to compare the cardiac function in thalassemia intermedia patients with normal subjects by means of echocardiography. Materials and Methods: This was a case-control study performed on 22 patients affected by thalassemia int...

Evaluation of Cardiac Function in Patients with Thalassemia Intermedia

Abstract Background Thalassemia intermedia is a variety of beta thalassemia which shows clinical symptoms somewhere between asymptomatic carriers and thalassemia major. Cardiac dysfunctions due to chronic anemia and hemosiderosis are the major causes of death in these patients. The purpose of this study is to evaluate cardiac function in these patients by echocardiography. Materials and Met...
