Up to fifth-order Raman scattering of InP under nonresonant conditions.

چکیده
We present Raman spectra of InP measured under nonresonant conditions revealing multiphonon processes up to fifth order. Using an incident photon energy in the absorption region of the compound but far from any of its interband transitions, nonresonant multiphonon processes of order higher than two, which have not been reported so far in a zinc-blende-type semiconductor, have been observed in indium phosphide. In this way it has been possible to detect contributions not only from the longitudinal optical phonons but also from the transverse optical phonons in the higher-order peaks. We find a very good agreement between multiples of the TOand LO-phonon frequencies at the zone center and the higher-order phonons measured in the experiments. The trend of strong intensity reductions observed when passing from first to second as well as from second to third order is not maintained when going from third to fourth, and from fourth to fifth order.

Heterodyne-detected fifth-order nonresonant Raman scattering from room temperature CS2.
Actively phase-locked heterodyne-detected fifth-order nonresonant Raman scattering from room temperature CS2 has been measured. The experimental signals have similar magnitudes, shapes, and sign changes as calculated responses obtained via molecular dynamics simulations [S. Saito and I. Ohmine, Phys. Rev. Lett. 88, 207401 (2002)]. The measured signals contain sign changes that appear to be asso...
متن کاملDirect fifth-order electronically nonresonant Raman scattering from CS2 at room temperature
In this paper we report the measurement of the direct fifth-order electronically nonresonant intermolecular response from liquid CS2 at room temperature. We recently demonstrated that all previous attempts to measure the direct fifth-order response were dominated by third-order cascaded signals @J. Chem Phys. 111, 3105 ~1999!#. Here we show that phase matching considerations can be used to prov...
متن کاملPolarization selectivity in fifth-order electronically nonresonant Raman scattering from CS2
This paper presents several experimentally collected tensor elements of the direct fifth-order Raman signal of room temperature CS2 . All results were collected so as to reduce contamination from third-order cascade signals, and it is shown that while these cascade signals are of varying importance in different tensor elements, phase matching considerations are sufficient to make the direct fif...
متن کاملElectronic Raman scattering in correlated materials: A treatment of nonresonant, mixed, and resonant scattering using dynamical mean-field theory
We solve for the electronic Raman scattering response functions on an infinite-dimensional hypercubic lattice employing dynamical mean-field theory. This contribution extends previous work on the nonresonant response to include the mixed and resonant contributions. We focus our attention on the infinite-dimensional spinless Falicov-Kimball model, where the problem can be solved exactly, and the...
متن کاملInterference-free gas-phase thermometry at elevated pressure using hybrid femtosecond/picosecond rotational coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering.
Rotational-level-dependent dephasing rates and nonresonant background can lead to significant uncertainties in coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) thermometry under high-pressure, low-temperature conditions if the gas composition is unknown. Hybrid femtosecond/picosecond rotational CARS is employed to minimize or eliminate the influence of collisions and nonresonant background for accu...
