چکیده

1552 www.thelancet.com Vol 382 November 9, 2013 Crypto sporidium was thought to be restricted to immunocompromised hosts, but there has been evidence for more than 20 years that this is not the case. Several reports of waterborne epidemics attest to this—the largest aff ecting more than 400 000 (mostly im muno competent) people. Cryptosporidiosis aff ects young children, and it is well known now to have adverse effects on nutritional outcomes. GEMS merely serves to underline the importance of cryptosporidiosis as a contributor to the global burden of diseases of children.

Effect of vaccination of cattle with the low virulence Nc-Spain 1H isolate of Neospora caninum against a heterologous challenge in early and mid-gestation

Live vaccines have emerged as one of the most potentially cost-effective measures for the control of bovine neosporosis. Previous studies have shown that Nc-Spain 1H is a naturally attenuated isolate of Neospora caninum and that immunisation with live Nc-Spain 1H tachyzoites generated a protective immune response in mice. The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of immunisa...

an we , should we , eradicate the meningococcus ? artin

The eradication of infectious agents is an attractive means of disease control that, to date, has been achieved for only one human pathogen, the smallpox virus. The introduction of vaccines against Neisseria meningitidis into immunisation schedules, and particularly the conjugate polysaccharide vaccines which can interrupt transmission, raises the question of whether disease caused by this obli...
