چکیده

Offshore wind turbine blades suffer from various faults such as blade angle asymmetry, icing, and bends. Replacement of rotor blades normally involves heavy transportation (e.g., vessel and crane), and dependency on weather conditions. As a result, wind turbines come to a long standstill and costs on energy production increase. One approach to reducing the downtime and costs is to apply a proper maintenance strategy, e.g., corrective, time-based, failure-based, condition-based, or reliabilitycentered maintenance. This article introduces an approach, which combines the knowledgebased approach with the force analysis technique, to supporting maintenance of offshore wind turbine blades. The approach solves the semantic ambiguity of offshore wind information and provides the possibility of monitoring the performance of wind turbine blades in real-time, leading to advanced alarms when needed. The approach can be adapted and applied to other wind turbine components.

Damage tolerance and structural monitoring for wind turbine blades.

The paper proposes a methodology for reliable design and maintenance of wind turbine rotor blades using a condition monitoring approach and a damage tolerance index coupling the material and structure. By improving the understanding of material properties that control damage propagation it will be possible to combine damage tolerant structural design, monitoring systems, inspection techniques a...

Wind Turbine Blade Life-Time Assessment Model for Preventive Planning of Operation and Maintenance

Out of the total wind turbine failure events, blade damage accounts for a substantial part, with some studies estimating it at around 23%. Current operation and maintenance (O&M) practices typically make use of corrective type maintenance as the basic approach, implying high costs for repair and replacement activities as well as large revenue losses, mainly in the case of offshore wind farms. T...

An Optimal Number-Dependent Preventive Maintenance Strategy for Offshore Wind Turbine Blades Considering Logistics

In offshore wind turbines, the blades are among the most critical and expensive components that suffer from different types of damage due to the harsh maritime environment and high load. The blade damages can be categorized into two types: the minor damage, which only causes a loss in wind capture without resulting in any turbine stoppage, and the major (catastrophic) damage, which stops the wi...

OPTIMAL DESIGN OF JACKET SUPPORTING STRUCTURES FOR OFFSHORE WIND TURBINES USING ENHANCED COLLIDING BODIES OPTIMIZATION ALGORITHM

Structural optimization of offshore wind turbine structures has become an important issue in the past years due to the noticeable developments in offshore wind industry. However, considering the offshore wind turbines’ size and environment, this task is outstandingly difficult. To overcome this barrier, in this paper, a metaheuristic algorithm called Enhanced Colliding Bodies Optimization...
