A Study on Oxygen Consumption in a Freshwater Fish Cyprinus carpio Exposed to Lethal and Sublethal Concentrations of Cypermethrin (25%Ec)

چکیده
Any alteration in fish physiology indicates the deterioration of water quality parameters, since fish are one of the biological indicators of water quality. The recent development of biomarkers based on the study of the response of organisms to toxic chemicals has provided essential tools for the implementation of environment contamination monitoring programmes (Korami et al., 2000). Toxicants in the environment mainly enter into fish by means of their respiratory system. Respiratory activity of a fish is often the first physiological response to be affected by the presence of toxic pollutants in the aquatic media. These responses were found to be less sensitive, but could be used successfully in environmental monitoring. A change in respiration rate is one of the common physiological responses to toxicants and is easily detectable through changes in oxygen consumption rate, which is frequently used to evaluate the changes in metabolism under environmental deterioration.

Influence of Cypermethrin on DNA and RNA Content in Different Organs of Fresh Water Fish Cyprinus carpio
In this study, freshwater fish Cyprinus carpio was exposed to sub lethal concentration of synthetic pyrethroids insecticide cypermethrin to evaluate the impact on nucleic acids in different organs. Fishes were exposed to sub lethal concentration (1/10th of LC50 value) of cypermethrin for three different durations, 7, 14 and 21 days. In seven day exposed fishes, DN...

Acute toxicity of commercial grade organophosphate insecticide, quinalphos (25% emulsified concentration) to common carp (Cyprinus carpio) was tested through bioassay. The acute toxicity of quinalphos to the fingerlings exposed for 96 hr was found to be 2.75 ppm. For sub lethal toxicity study, the fish were exposed to two concentration viz., 1/10th of LC50 (0.275 ppm) and 1/5th of LC50 (0.55 pp...

Freshwater fish Cirrhinus mrigala were exposed to lethal concentration (5 mg/L) for 1,2,3,4 days and sublethal concentration (1 mg/L) for 1,7,14,21 days of cypermethrin to examine the enzymes activity, in functionally three different tissues namely, gill, liver and muscle. Activities of Aspartate aminotransferase (AAT), Alanine aminotransferase (AlAT) and Glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) increased...

Freshwater fish, Cyprinus carpio were exposed to acute dose of cypermethrin at 7.5 μg/L for 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 days and sub-lethal concentrations (1.5 μg/L) for 1,7, 14, 21 and 28 days to determine the change in enzyme activity in three functionally different tissues viz., gill, liver and muscle. Cypermethrin induced alterations that are both time dependent and tissue-specific, with glutamate deh...

Phorate is an organophosphate insecticide (OPI) which is widely used throughout the world as a broad spectrum insecticide on numerous crops including paddy and groundnut. The impact of acute lethal and chronic sublethal (ALCS) toxicity of phorate was investigated on Malate dehydrogenase (MDH) activity in the vital organs of fish such as gill, liver, muscle, kidney and brain of the freshwater co...
