Band Degeneracy and Mott Transition: Dynamical Mean Field Study
نویسنده
چکیده
We investigate the Mott transition in innnite dimensions in the orbitally degenerate Hubbard model. We nd that the qualitative features of the Mott transition found in the one band model are also present in the orbitally degenerate case. Surprisingly, the quantitative aspects of the transition around density one are not very sensitive to orbital degeneracy, justifying the quantitative success of the one band model which was previously applied to orbitally degenerate systems. We contrast this with quantities that have a sizeable dependence on the orbital degeneracy and comment on the role of the intraatomic exchange J.

The Orbital Selective Mott Transition in a Three Band Hubbard model: a Slave Boson Mean Field Study
Abstract In the present paper, we systematically studied the possible Orbital selective Mott transition (OSMT) in the t2g system, which has three orbital degeneracy. The slave Boson mean field theory is generalized to the three band systems with full Hund’s rule coupling including spin flip and pair hopping terms. A new type of Mott transition which is driven by the crystal field splitting or t...

متن کاملHidden critical point scenario of the Mott transition in two dimensions: Variational plaquette study
The phase diagram for the Mott transition in the two-dimensional Hubbard model is studied using the variational cluster approximation. Antiferromagnetic short-range correlations are found to substantially affect the competition between the metallic and the insulating state. Opposed to dynamical mean-field theory, the transition turns out to be discontinuous even at zero temperature although a c...
متن کاملMultisite versus multiorbital Coulomb correlations studied within finite-temperature exact diagonalization dynamical mean-field theory
The influence of short-range Coulomb correlations on the Mott transition in the single-band Hubbard model at half filling is studied within cellular dynamical mean-field theory for square and triangular lattices. Finitetemperature exact diagonalization is used to investigate correlations within two-, three-, and four-site clusters. Transforming the nonlocal self-energy from a site basis to a mo...
متن کاملElectronics with Correlated Oxides: SrVO(3)/SrTiO(3) as a Mott Transistor.
We employ density functional theory plus dynamical mean field theory and identify the physical origin of why two layers of SrVO(3) on a SrTiO(3) substrate are insulating: the thin film geometry lifts the orbital degeneracy, which in turn triggers a first-order Mott-Hubbard transition. Two layers of SrVO(3) are just at the verge of a Mott-Hubbard transition and hence ideally suited for technolog...
