An Extension of the \kappa-\mu$\,$Shadowed Fading Model: Statistical Characterization and Applications

چکیده
We here introduce an extension and natural generalization of both the κ-μ shadowed and the classical Beckmann fading models: the Fluctuating Beckmann (FB) fading model. This new model considers the clustering of multipath waves on which the line-of-sight (LoS) components randomly fluctuate, together with the effect of in-phase/quadrature power imbalance in the LoS and non-LoS components. Thus, it unifies a variety of important fading distributions as the one-sided Gaussian, Rayleigh, Nakagami-m, Rician, κ-μ, η-μ, η-κ, Beckmann, Rician shadowed and the κ-μ shadowed distribution. The chief probability functions of the FB fading model, namely probability density function, cumulative distribution function and moment generating function are derived. The second-order statistics such as the level crossing rate and the average fade duration are also analyzed. These results can be used to derive some performance metrics of interest of wireless communication systems operating over FB fading channels.

متن کاملStatistical characterization of kappa-μ shadowed fading
This paper investigates a natural generalization of the κ-μ fading channel in which the line-of-sight (LOS) component is subject to shadowing. This fading distribution has a clear physical interpretation, good analytical properties and unifies the one-side Gaussian, Rayleigh, Nakagami-m, Ricean, κ-μ and Ricean shadowed fading distributions. The three basic statistical characterizations, i.e. pr...
متن کاملOn the Sum of Correlated Squared $\kappa-\mu$ Shadowed Random Variables and its Application to Performance Analysis of MRC
Abstract—In this paper, we study the statistical characterization of the sum of the squared κ − μ shadowed random variables with correlated shadowing components. The probability density function (PDF) of this sum is obtained in the form of a power series. The derived PDF is utilized for obtaining the performance results of the maximal ratio combining (MRC) scheme over correlated κ − μ shadowed ...

This paper presents a novel unified performance analysis of Space-Time Block Codes (STBCs) operating in the Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) network and subjected to generalized shadowed fading and noise scenarios. Specifically, we derive novel, simple and accurate average bit error rates (ABER) expressions for coherent modulation schemes in the generalized − and shadowed − fading channels...
متن کاملA Random Matrix Model for $\kappa$-$\mu$ Shadowed Fading
This paper shows that the proposed Rician shadowed model for multi-antenna communications allows for the unification of a wide set of models, both for multiple-input multiple output (MIMO) and single-input single output (SISO) communications. The MIMO Rayleigh and MIMO Rician can be deduced from the MIMO Rician shadowed, and so their SISO counterparts. Other SISO models, besides the Rician shad...
