Residential Location Choice Modeling: Accommodating Sociodemographic, School Quality and Accessibility Effects

چکیده
This paper examines household residential location choice behavior using a sample of single wage-earner households from the Dallas-Fort Worth region in Texas. The study considers several potential determinants of residence location choice, including socio-demographic status, stage of life cycle and racial composition. In addition, the study is one of the few research efforts that recognizes the impact of school quality on household residential location choice. The study also accommodates the effects of accessibility to different activity purposes on residential choice decisions.

Application of Hazard Based Model for Housing Location Based on Travel Distance to Work
Residential location choice modeling is one of the areas in transportation planning that attempts to examine households location search behavior incorporating their trade-offs between housing quality, prices or rents, distance to work and other key factors. This brings up the need to come up with methods to logically allocate credible choice alternatives for individuals. This article attempts to...
متن کاملAccommodating Spatial Correlation across Choice Alternatives in Discrete Choice Models: an Application to Modeling Residential Location Choice Behavior
This paper presents a modeling methodology capable of accounting for spatial correlation across choice alternatives in discrete choice modeling applications. Many location choice (e.g., residential location, workplace location, destination location) modeling contexts involve choice sets where alternatives are spatially correlated with one another due to unobserved factors. In the presence of su...
متن کاملAn Agent-Based Simulation of Residential Location Choice of Tenants in Tehran, Iran
Residential location choice modeling is one of the substantial components of land use and transportation models. While numerous aggregated mathematical and statistical approaches have been developed to model the residence choice behavior of households, disaggregated approaches such as the agent-based modeling have shown interesting capabilities. In this paper, a novel agentbased approach is dev...
متن کاملModeling the Interdependence in Household Residence and Workplace Choices
Models of residential and workplace location choice prevalent in the literature often assume that one choice dimension is exogenous to the other. In our view, a broad and uniform assumption that one choice dimension is exogenous and influences the other is too strong to use as the foundation for current behavioral research or applied policy analysis. We seek to examine the interdependence of re...

Abstract. The concept of accessibility has long been theorized as a principal determinant of residential choice behavior. Research on this influence is extensive but the empirical results have been mixed, with some research suggesting that accessibility is becoming a relatively insignificant influence on housing choices. Further, the measurement of accessibility must contend with complications ...
